Jackpot Nevada Hunt 12-25-11=1 coyote Kill

It wasn't and man do you ever hear one heck of alot of stuff when its so dark you can't even see your hand 1 inch from your face. lol I had my Colt 357 close by and rifle and sawed off shotgun. Pretty spooky though.

It was pitch black no full moon and overcast and spitting small amounts of snow. Wasn't pleasant believe me. I used to check traps all day and until 1 or 2 in the morning and was almost as bad especially if you had a coyote break loose with a trap on his leg. You would walk cautiously through the willow patches looking for a set of eyes or the chain rattle. lol

I got lost out deer hunting near White Elephant Butte once when I was bout 15 and it scared the crap out of me. I had hiked from the truck and hiked farther than I thought. It got dark fast and I had no idea where I was. I had my .243 and 4 rounds of ammo and that was it. Fortunately, I was only 2 miles from camp up on a butte. I could see lantern light and I walked toward it. Luckily it was our camp and I was able to walk right to it. I'm not sure who was more scared, my dad or me. Sure was glad to get back to camp that night. Learned a good lesson about being prepared that night.

My wife knows not to call search and rescue unless I don't come home until noon the next day and I leave a map on my computer as to where I will be at.

It is scary to be lost I guess. I have been lucky never to have been lost but have heard horror stories. I am thankful they have GPS's anymore. They are lifesavers literally.

I usually leave a map of where I'll be and carry a Spot Messenger. I also carry a ton of equipment that I hopefully will never need.

Hey guys, love reading about you guys talking about Jarbidge. I live in Elko and get up that way several times a year. Probably my favorite place in Nevada. Goodluck with your yote hunting up that way and if you see an extra BIG coyote that may have come down from Idaho, well, you know what to do. fatrooster.
