James Calhoon bolt mod for CZ527 ?

I have finally had enough of the high CZ rings, I want them lower. Im going to be sending my bolt off to Mr Calhoon hopefully one day this week...for those of you that have done this. What rings did you end up going with? I see he sells rings called "hunkers" . Has anyone went this route? What other low rings have you used on your 527s?

Thoughts and suggestions please.

I have more CZ 527s than I can use, made from 2003 on up. Not one of the requires high rings.

Why the [beeep] people still believe in this is beyond me. Talked to a guy just the other day on the fire that bought
a new one on GB and ordered a bolt handle the same day. Seriously.... Why?????

All that Calhoon handle accomplishes is a loss in aesthetics.

First off...mine came with high rings...I cannot get a proper check weld.

So instead of jumping up and down perhaps you could answer my question? What rings are you using that get the scope lower and allow it to clear?

I'm sure hoping RePete or someone else who has done this chimes in because my 2-7x33 leupy sure looks like if I go any lower the handle IS at the very least going to be difficult to manipulate

I have Burris medium rings on two CZ 527 204's. Both have Nikon 4.5X16 Buckmaster scopes. The bell does interfere with the bolt handle. I did a bit of recontouring with some cold blue to fix the problem.

Maybe those "believers" do it because of things like this:

That's simply not true but I'm not going to argue with you....

Here's a set of Warn Med's and a Calhoon modified bolt handle....the Leupold scope DID interfere with the factory bolt handle using these same rings.....
Edit;....I'm pretty sure the ocular housing on your 2-7 and my 3.5-10 are the dame diameter....but don't quote me on that...

A little better pic with a Bushnell Elite scope....I don't see where the handle's all that ugly..

Hope that helps....

My buddy down in NV DIY'd and cold blued his too....it works and looks pretty darn good....he got a nice radius using the end a belt sander with the guard off.....
The Calhoon swap was only $30 back then so I took the easy/lazy way out....

I just got off the phone with Mr. Calhoon. I have the handle pulled out of the bolt and in the morning I'm boxing it up and sending it his way......

I have done this to at least a half dozen of my CZ's and a few for friends. I used a bench grinder, draw file and some emory cloth. Then cold blue.

I have two in front of me with warne mediums and leupold 4.5-14s. No Calhoon handles.

How can that be????

Not all Medium rings are created equal. I found this out a few months ago on an odd scope on one of my AR's

OK.......I'm a liar....James Calhoon is a fraud who markets useless products.....and no manufacturer in history has ever changed product specs.....got it.....thanks.....

OH.....and thanks for reminding me why I seldom post over here.....

From Wickipedia=====Predatormasters======Where newbie's go to get bad advice from posers.....

I'd lean toward an agreement. 19 caliber, anyone?

Good riddance.

I've noticed. Seen more ignorant [beeep] on here in the last year than I've seen in the real world my entire life.
