A few advantages of the NEF for a new shooter are: it is easy to check the bqrrel for obstructions (snow, mud, etc.), There is NOTHING that can make the gun fire unless the hammer is cocked, not finger on the trigger, safety problems, or falls, They can break the action open when around other hunters. The triggers on the dozen or so that I have handled have been OK, It is easy for you to see if they have cocked the hammer, The youth synthetic stock is fantastic. What I set up for kids is .44Mag. There is cheap, low recoil load for high volume practice, and it is more reliable on deer than the .243 woth bad shot placement. The problem is that you have to orde the youth stock from Midway. The origonal stock is ease to sell on the internet. The 7.63x39 would be an other good choice. They bothe have plenty of power at the practical range fot kids. A fixed 2 1/2X or 4X shotgun scope works great. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif I sold one to a 11 year old. When he grew up, and bought a 30-06 I could not get it back. He still hunt with it. Claims that he killed every deer he shot at with it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
