Kimber, Browning, or Remington (long with lots of questions)

2) Browning A-bolt: absolute biggest POS out there.....an accident waiting to happen...'nuff said......

You're really sounding like a broken record, dude. Except for the "issues" concerning the trigger that you've taken great effort to point out, on numerous occasions no less, just what the heck is the trouble with the A-Bolt? Seriously. Please enlighten us, ol' wise one.

I second that. What is the problem with A-Bolts? I know a lot of people who own and love them. I just got a A-Bolt Varmit Stalker. The trigger could be a little better. Could not quite get all the creep out, and only got it down to a consistant 1.75lbs. It took several pulls and a benchrest to find the creep, and no one else noticed it, so it can't be that bad. Evidently the safety has to be in the fire position to work the bolt. That was dumb. Other than that, I have no complaints. In fact it seems to have a quite tight chamber and a very smooth bore. I have not shot it yet, but would be suprised if it shot poorly.

You are the one sounding like a broken record, not me. You feel the undying need to comment every time I give my opinion(as asked, by the way) on the A-bolt........

I cannot educate those who do not wish to be educated. If you still do not know what is wrong with it by now, after all that has been stated in the past, I'd say that you'd simply rather argue, displaying your ignorance with each uttered word, or that you have a learning disability.....

One day, you will learn about rifles, and know for yourself. Until then, you needn't question others opinions about that which you do not know.........take a Midol, sit back, shut up, listen, and MAYBE you'll learn something.....

I mean, honestly, we've been over this already......The conclusion:
You don't know [beeep] about rifles, and should be listening, not talking.......

Hope this "thread" does not get out of hand. 2muchgun has an extensive rifle knowledge which he shares here and on other rifle forums as well. He knows of what he speaks.

Why "2muchgun" is "so passionate" about bashing Browning A- bolts I do not know. But he does and likely for good reason.

I am not a Browning fan...anything Browning, but I keep that to myself except for having to address it here at this moment. My reasons are different than 2much guns.

We all are so "fortunate" to live in a country were rifle purchase choices are so numerous that it often exceeds our capacity to afford them all.

Hoggy---nuttin' to worry about. I've "picked NC's brain" about rifles in the past, and there ain't much to pick. It just isn't that interesting anymore. I'm more than willing to let it go. Hopefully, he feels the same. I wouldn't want to lose my otherwise cheery disposition...... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

If I really wanted to get him goin', I'd post the picture of the A-bolt's trigger group......or the A-bolt with the broken bottom metal. But I won't do that. Now is that being a good boy, or what?/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

2muchgun,
I'm going to play nice here, too, but no, I'm not going to "shut up" (what a childish statement, btw). I'm open to learning about things, but since when did this forum become a place for those more enlightened (questionable at times) to spout off without the participation of everyone.

So, so far we have: 1) complicated trigger group, and 2) broken bottom metal.
What else is there that makes the A-Bolt so bad?

I must have logged on to the wrong forum. I thought I was here to talk to mature, knowledgeable guys on topics such as hunting and guns. This sounds like 3rd grade recess, or weight lifting session with a bunch of teenagers on steroids. "mine's bigger than yours, or I did this better" who gives a crap. a bunch of know it alls. A person should be able to buy and shoot whatever he wants without another whining or critisizing him. If you want to complain about a man's taste in rifles, then YOU should buy HIM what YOU want him to shoot. SHUT UP AND GO HUNTING

Just shot the new Browning A-Bolt Varmit Stalker this morning. Three five shot test loads loads using Varget and 50 grain Nosler Balistic Tips shot at 100 yards, all went into an inch. The same inch. When the targets are overlayed the groups match up. The smallest group was the hottest load(around a grain under max)at .58 of an inch. Not bad for the first trip to the range. The trigger creep drives me nuts at the range, but I bet I never notice it when hunting. POS?

No, my friend, this is a great forum. Please stick around and you'll see that there's a good bunch of folks here that are knowledgeable and helpful. Only a couple of bad apples that leave a bad smell for the rest of us.
It's all in the way it's presented that makes a difference...

I agree there are a lot of good people here. With different standards and opinions too. By competitive benchrest standards I am sure an off the shelf Browning is less than desireable.

So this is your perception of "proper presentation"? Rippin' on someone else's post and offering the original poster nothing in the process? Very nice.....Ever think you may be the bad apple? Please, feel free to offer what makes the A-bolt shine in comparison to others.....Oh wait, we've been down this road already, haven't we? Last time I asked you this question, you had problems conceiving my intent. Mental block still there? Or have you something constructive to offer in the A-bolt's favor now? Don't worry Tom, I already know the answer........ /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

I've given it some thought and what I think the guy needs is a .270WSM, .270 Weatherby Mag, or 7mm Weatherby Mag. These are all long-range shooters that pack a heck of a punch. I feel confident that any of these would serve him well.

I reload. Plenty of bullet options in 7mm. I have held and fondeled a Kimber Montana. I've ordered one in 7mm WSM. I'll give it a shot. Dealer knows if there is a problem it goes back. As many times as it takes to get a shooter. The Kimber I checked out felt so nice and light I almost left with it.

Thanks for the advice guys. Sorry this turned into a hair pulling, name calling, finger pointing mess. Was not my intentions.

broknaero,
This is a hunting rifle, correct? A scope is a given, as is the very real possibility of operating the rifle with gloves on, right?

I own Remington, Winchester, Ruger, and Browning rifles. My first choice in a hunting rifle is the Browning. Why? Simple - I am a BIG FAN of three locking lugs, which gives you 60 degree bolt throw (vs. 90 degrees in the other designs). Not many people pick up on this, but the 60 degree bolt throw is nice to have when operating a bolt rifle in cold weather - you get much more clearance between the objective lens of the scope and the bolt handle.

Just my opinion. Good luck in your decision.

Lou

I am a Remington fan myself, but in the past 3 years the most accurate rifles that have been brought to the range have been Browning. We have a shooting range set up at the farm shop. When it starts getting close to deer season everyone meets up out there a couple days a week to shoot and sight in rifles. I often end up shooting most of them for the guys. From what I've seen lately the brownings have been the most accurate. I'm still a remington fan and would only buy remington, but the brownings are shooters.

Brownings semm to be pretty popular, but only in the South. Must be the mild conditions......

Do me a favor, Lou, disassemble your bolt, let me know how long it took you, and then tell me how impressed you are with the many tiny little parts comprising it........

North, south, east, or west doesn't matter. I'm not talking about preference. I'm telling you what I've seen shoot good, and I can't argue with that. I also don't care what the bolt consists of either. I'm telling you what I've seen SHOOT. Like I said, I'm a remington fan, but I can't say one bad thing about a browning.
