leupold or vortex

BTDT. I've read plenty of Ilya's "scope reviews". He has yet to impress me. Never heard him say Leupys were made in China, though.

See I tend to live in a reality based world. And the reality of the situation is that Leupold was awarded at least about $6-$7 million in military contracts last year alone. Products were tested and evaluated, bids were submitted, and Leupold won the contracts. Roughly $2.5 million from the Marines, $2.5 million from the Feds, and over $1.5 million from the Army. These are just the ones I am aware of, there could be more.

Let me guess though, the Army, Marines, and Feds, do not qualify as "knowledgable people" as you say, and the scopes must have "performed horribly", as you say, to be awarded such contracts

Think I'm done here. Really not much more to say..........

I thought I would capture this before you edit again...

Nightforce received a $25.8 Million contract from the Military last year. Primary reason, not happy with Leupold.

1.5 and 2.5's are a drop in the bucket. I would like to know what the Military spends on S&B's?? I will have to look up their contracts.

Oh, I looked it up. S&B got a $34.7 Million dollar contract with Uncle Sugar last year. WOW...they like Leupy's a lot.

It is funny how whenever Leupold is mentioned with a brand like Vortex, Bushnell, or the like, the anti-Leupy guys quickly turn to talking of Nightforces, S&B, USO, Premier, and the like. Just like you have here.

That speaks volumes in itself.

And I edited nothing. Merely added on to what was already there.

Bye....

Oh, by the way;

Leupold has a $9,498,475 five year IDIQ firm fixed price contract.

That is 9 Million over 5 years. It was awarded in 2008 and expires in 2013.

The contracts with S&B and NF are just the totals for last year. That is just 1.8 Million a year if you do some division......Not much of a contract with the US Military. I bet the guy that sells hammers and toilet seats has a MUCH bigger contract.

Like I said, those are just the ones I know of. You can add that 6.5 to your $9.5 million.

With all the crap you are slingin' I'm sure the toilet seat guy does right well

Back to the original topic, I did call Vortex yesterday. Seems I lost the windage cap to a Viper scope. I was straight-up and said I lost it, even though "lost" is not covered in the warranty. All they asked for was my name and address and said a new one would be in the mail. No charge. Excellent service. Should get here tomorrow, methinks.

I remember some years ago, same thing happened with a Bushnell scope. They sent me a bill in the mail for like $6.95 or something.....

Well, you brought up how well the Military likes them and how much the LE market loves them.....

They just like NF more for the same price. If talking Leupold M4's and Nightforce, they are in the same price point. Most, if not all, think the NF's are much better optic.

I know for a fact that the reason the LE market stayed (still stays) with Leupold for so many years is Leupold's warranty. I will admit it is very good!

But people started to realize that you NEED that warranty when the scope has issues (shoots craps). Most realize the little savings to have a rifle dead-lined while the scope is getting fixed. Or having to buy multiple back up scopes to have when that scope is getting fixed.

Again;

"So since you asked me questions, so may I ask;

Are you LE?
Are you LE with procurement experiences?
Are you in a position in LE that you even see a scope let alone use one?

Are you prior serve AD Military with procurement experiences?

Are you a scope-a-holic?
Do you buy/use/train with multiple scopes?

Are you a Distributor with an extensive line of scopes?

Who do you know at Zanders? Especially with them as I am especially familiar with them as employees and the owner. Which one is the "local idiot"? Is it Glenda?"

Then again, if you want a $290 poodle shooter scope with a great warranty....then Leupold is a very viable choice.

I can't keep up with your editing...

That is the total of Leupold's contracts since 10/30/2006. That is according to Military Industrial Complex that list all contracts by company. So the total since 10/30/2006 is 9.4 Million.

I disagree with that figure, but it really doesn't matter. The fact is, there are more Leupold long range optics in the field with US forces than any other brand. Period. And Leupold earns 80% of their money from the civilian market. I'd say they do pretty well.........

If you disagree then find out the actual contracts and numbers. You may be right, but that is the contracts and numbers that are listed by the Gov for the company of Leupold and Stevens, Incorporated since 2006.

90 percent of the civilian market thinks a Kimber is a "custom" 1911.
90 percent of the civilian market thinks a DPMS is a M4 Military rifle.
90 percent of the civilian market thinks Mattel made a M-16.

(I have no idea of those numbers I just made them up)

Just the general buying public is clueless. I had a guy get mad at me once because I "refused" to order him a Remington 10/22. No matter how tactfully I tried to explain to him.

I ordered a Glock 22 for a guy once and he was mad it took .40 S&W....instead of "22's".

I will agree with you that you can't go really wrong with a Leupold scope. You may pay to much for what you get, but you can't go wrong.

I honestly don't care enough to research it further.

I think the VX3 line represents an excellent value. Nothing costing less is as good, IMO. To get better, you have to spend more $. Although some more expensive scopes offer no more performance, IME.......
