Lever actons for yote rifles?

I just thought I would throw this in to see what happens.
I have been useing lever actions for a number of years, forty or fifty to be exact. Any how I have a few times went shooting yotes with one 30-30 44 Mag or 45-70. Results are well I guess BANG SLATTT sums it up esspecially with the 45-70 and 44 Mag. Anyone know of any levers besides the BLR that are chambered in a more fur frendly chambering? .223 or 22-250? I stopped hunting yotes for fur when the price got below 20 bucks. Now I shoot them to control predation. But anyhow any suggestions on fur frendly lever actions? BTW a good lever stays on a runner as well as a AR. I think that Remmy pump might as well, but they are pretty spendy. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I remember seeing a 218 in a lever gun, I think it was an E.Arthur Brown custom job on a model 94. A 7-30 waters could be loaded with light, hard bullets making it a possibility.

I have a Marlin 1894 in 218 Bee. Savage built some 99's in 22-250 and the 22 Hi-Power. Marlin and Winchester both chamberred levers in 219 Zipper, 25-20 and 218 Bee. Then there's the 99's and 88's and Sako's in 243.

Oh my, don't forget the beautiful Winchester M65 in 218 Bee. An oldie, but goodie for sure. Replicas of recent manufacture are still available in NIB condition.

I'll bet my 1886 Winchester in 45-90 would stop a yote, that's assuming I hit him squarely, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The Sako lever is called the Finnwolf, there is a 243 on gunbroker right now.

well I did shoot one with my 30-30 once with some sort of hard cast bullet, at 70ish yds just basically punched straight through it. I am pretty sure it was a 170grn. I should try and find them, I do remember they were super cheap rounds. when I get setup for reloading Im going to try some light bullets,
I love the .30-30 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I shot a jackrabbit with my .357 lever once with 158grn cast bullets and actually found most of it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif, those may work or something in the cast 125grn bullets. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Good luck

Here is my Winchester 88 in .243

Loaded with the 80 grain Sierra its Ok as long as it doesn't hit shoulder bone...and it is "Bang-Flop"

oh my god . never knew there was such a thing. what an awesome looking gun. another of my favorite calibers too. sure would look good next to my forrester 308. not enough beans in the bank to think about it though. thanks for the education aws. lee.

I have a pristine Savage 99DL in .243...

Killed a couple of coyotes with it, but for the most part, I'm not too keen on taking a 98% Savage 99 out into the type terrain we hunt.

I'll stick to the AR for that type work.

My friend hunts with his Sav. 99 every time he goes out.

If you use the heavier bullets & don't hit a huge bone, they are pretty fur friendly.

Of course you can shoot several with a .243 with an in-out hole, & then nearly quarter one with the same load, for no apparent reason. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The 218 Bee cartridge is a nice little round, in my opinion. If you have a lever rifle that will shoot it accurately, there isn't any reason not to use it. My Bee is a Ruger #1 and loves 40 gr. V-max at 2990 fps. It made some really spectacular kills on Wyoming prairie dogs out to 225 yards. The cartridge and 40 gr. V-Max did a number on prairie dogs, but I think it would make a good fur-friendly round. Haven't tried it thought, just guessing.

As to lever action rifles, last year I shot a bobcat with a lever action - while deer hunting and not by design. A 444 Marlin is a bit much for bobcats ! The hole in the off-side is not a pretty sight. But I will tell you this - that Marlin is one heck of an accurate rifle and I wouldn't hesitate to hunt coyotes with it to 100 yards if I so wanted. So if your rifle is accurate and something you enjoy, then go for it and have some fun.

This is my 30-30 that I have had for years
Now that you brought it up I wanna try it again this time in the coyote woods I think some 150 gr bullets would do the trick
