looking for a good pistol to carry hunting probally a revolver in 357 but not sure yet. anyone have any opinons on a accurate pistol revolver of semi?

I carry a Ruger.45 on most hunts unless I'm elk hunting, then I carry a Super Blackhawk .44 mag with big P+ loads, in case I get a close up shot at an Elk.

I like the Ruger 45's as they seem to shoot no matter what they fell in I have yet to have a misfire in 11 years. (Although my buddy did with a reload, that said most misfires are due to ammo not the piece.) My son just bought a Ruger P345, and I says it's much the same as my P97 only thinner and more compact...and a rail...I need one of those :-D

Love my Security-Six .357mag. with the right rounds you could even give a Black Bear a bad day. Also, I can, when in practice, hit at 100yrds with it with reasonable consistency from a rest. Even hit 3or4 out of the 6 in the cylinder at 200yrds again with a rest.

I really like to pack my sp101 in 357, I dont worry too much about 2 legged varmints, but its accurate and nice to shoot for a snubby 357.

again the smith, blackhawk or the gp100 are good choices, even the vaqero is nice if you like fixed sites, i love mine.

The problem with the 327 is ammo availability, at least around here, they dont have much and it seems to go fast when they do have it. I havent shot one yet, but i have a 32mag and its very nice to shoot and would do fine on a coyote im thinking as long as you dont push its limits.

Good luck

Dave

See if you can find a used Colt Trooper in .357 with a 4" barrel. That's a sweet revolver for the money. Very smooth and accurate action. That's the nicest mid-cost revolver I've ever shot.

You'll want some ear protection on when you start shooting it, if you expect to hear anything afterwards.

So many good ones to pick from. You might have to dig in a little and decide what the main intended use will be. They're kind of like rifles, you need a few to cover different objectives.

My current 3 favorite:

- XDsc

- Glock 19

- FNP - 40

On my list to buy next is a CZ. A fella let me run one at a match and it fit extremely well.

I recently traded off a Kimber Custom II that I really liked, but it was sitting in the safe too much.

I picked up a Glock 22 a few months back for an open carry pistol. It is light, accurate, and goes bang every time I pull the trigger. I've never been a Glock fan, always preferred Sig's and 1911's. I kind of refer to it as the AK of pistols.

I like this pistol now.

I always carry my Sig P220 .45 (The Flying Ashtray). It will never let ya down. A bit heavey for an all day trip though. I guess my age is catching up with me. But, I have been looking at The Judge for camping and fishing. .45 LC/.410. Versatile hand gun.

Unless you plan to practice with it on a very regular basis,, A revolver is hard to beat for occasional use... I will usually have a S&W model 19 (.357 mag) loaded with a couple of rounds of bird/snake shot and a couple rounds of +P .38 and the last two with some smoking .357 Mag power loads...

Mine is a 2.5" and not that heavy to carry and very accurate at 25 yards...

Most of the time, when needed you will only have time to get two shots off at anything, depending on the size and distance..

They are not that expensive to pick up used...

Gotta put another vote in for glock . I have the glock 23 and its perfect for MY needs. Most of the time its hiding in the truck but it is also my hunting sidearm.

I also carry a Springfield Armory XD45C and it has digested everything I have fed it. Even frangible bullet ammo from different makers.

Glock 27 it is for me.... I also like my Smith 686 Swet Shooting gun just n the large side, My next revolver is the S & W 460 Magnum for hunting.....
