Lunch when hunting?

While watching one of those weird foods shows on the travel channel the host was in Alaska, oe of his meals was a good ol' muffler meal cooked on a snow mobile muffler. THe interesting part was that the meal was cooked in a special can. it looked like a commercial product. Does anybody know about any special muffler meal cooking containers offered to the public? If not, it seems like a cool little gadget that would sell.
 
I cook the sausages or fart bags before I leave and wrap them in tinfoil while hot and place them on my intake manifold. As long as you dont stop for to long , they stay pretty warm.

A good question. I love seeing the responses. Most of Montana is very remote, the idea of eating lunch in town is a foriegn concept out here.

If you go hunting with me, you better be prepared to eat on the run. Stick something in your pocket and eat it either while were walking (Redfrog calls it a fast trot) to the next stand or while we're back at the truck driving to the next stand. I'll usually have a power bar/energy bar somewhere in the truck and always a hot thermos of coffee. Coffee is more important to me than food.

Redfrog makes a mighty mean sandwich, so when I go hunting with him, we eat a sandwich on the run. Oh, and don't forget the brownies. I can live on brownies and coffee! I run pretty hard all day long and don't like a heavy lunch to slow me down. At night, back at camp or the house, I'll "catch up"!
 
I can't believe nobody has mentioned "Snackables". They're kind of new to me, but I'm becoming a big fan. Some of them even come with cookies, yum.

I just take the whole cooler....lots of fixin's for sandwiches and the like. You never know who you might run into that would like something to eat!!!

having old unreliable SUVs has tought me to pack enough Lunch for a few weeks. I never know if I am going to make it out with the car under its own power. I also keep my cars very dirty. I figure I could last 3 weeks on the McDonald's fries and katchup on the floor.

If it is just me, I usually don't take much along, except a smaller cooler of diet Dr. Pepper anda few Little Debbie snacks.

Tim, you sound like you would make a good hunting companion, since you bring enough for the other guy too.

I'm a light eater when I'm hunting but smoked meat and cheese is hard to turn down. Lance didn't have any of that when I hunted with him. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Last night I cooked a couple of Boudain, wrapped them in foil and put em on the engine block. Pretty tastey at midnight.

I actually had planned on hunting this weekend, WIHA in Lincoln, Osborne, Mitchell & Jewell counties. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
But all this rain the past few days foiled that idea. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif

If you ever get up toward Delphos stop in at Big Rich's. He has some pretty good burgers and other things. The people that bought the cafe from Ermagard turned it into a dive. While you're there ask for Marv Alderson that's my dad and he can probably turn you on to some land to hunt. Just tell them you know his boy JP from here. You might be the one that hunts Carlson's ground. Mike's my brother in-law.

We are always a looong way from civilization when we hunt, be it coyotes, big game, whatever. We usually put together a cooler for the weekend packed with sandwich fixin’s, Doritos, caffeine/sugar (usually some kind of soda although I have weird friends that like Gatorade instead), an apple or two or some canned fruit, some little Debbie, etc. In the summer and fall, we just throw in a frozen gallon jug and it usually lasts the weekend. In the winter, we don’t worry about it; we just leave the cooler in the truck and hope it keeps everything from freezing solid! We usually bring along some bakery muffins for breakfast and always keep a lot of water in the truck. Oh, yeah, we also keep a can or two of Vienna for those special occasions (or at least to gross out our wives when they come along! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif).

The only Carlson's ground I know about is S.W. of Minneapolis a few miles. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif I always wanted to hunt it, but so far I haven't gotten permission. I'm making a tour thru that area next weekend {hopefully}, to chat with folks about hunting permission. I usually do it earlier in the year, but I have been a little slow this year. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
 
You're talking about the gap there are dogs in there. I was supposed to thin them out last year but didn't make it back so go get'em. They actually have alot of ground to hunt if you consider extended family and all. I thought maybe you were the one that Mike was talking about when he said there was an older gentleman from Salina that called their land a couple of times a year.
