M16 autosear

Can someone explain to me why these can be bought on gun broker for 18.99. I'm just trying to understand this. You can also purchase the jig to drill third hole. Just seems odd to me if illegal to own why so easy to purchase?

If I wanted to legally own one where do you start. Also, do class 3 machine guns need to be fired at a class 3 range? Just curious.

Could be a trap --- hahaha
Just kidding
I had a sack of these in Nam ---
Didn't make it home with them ---
Be careful---
Thx

It's my understanding it is illegal to own an auto sear for the AR15 that makes it basically an M-16. If I were you I would not order one and the person who has them for sale is probably gonna get a visit by the BATF and he won't like the conversation.

kwg

A few yr ago you could buy them from Shotgun News for cheap. They were/are sold as a "safety device". To be legal to own and use as an auto sear, it needs to be serialized, registered and made prior to 1980shomething (don't recall exact yr) and that will cost you $15K+.

Most things in this world that are 'illegal' are not too difficult to obtain (or make).

If I'm not mistaken, its legal to own but illegal to install. Just like owning a 12 inch shotgun barrel, its legal to own just don't install it. I'm no lawyer so take this with a grain of salt.

Anything that makes your AR15 full auto will need to be made before 1986 and have been registered then. You will have to pay the NFA tax to purchase and own it.

Be careful with the advise that you can own but not install. There is wording called "intent" that will get you in deep [beeep].

These are usually sold as a replacement part for people that have legally registered machine guns.
as far as the jig goes buyer beware.
as a side note ,there are a lot of other parts required to make a full auto, m16 bolt carrier, selector, and a few others
As far as owning one, find a class 3 dealer that has one for sale, sell one of your kidney's, pay the 200.00 for a tax stamp & have at it.

"Constructive intent". Just owning the parts will get you a one-way ticket to Club Fed.
The man knows what he is talking about.

The reason they are so cheap is that people who own pre ban registered sears CAN replace broken parts. So say you own a pre 86 FA lower and your FA sear breaks, you can purchase one on GB for the 20 bucks. Im not sure what you have to doe ATF wise but im assuming you let them know prior to purchasing and they issue you something for the new one.

Also if you dont own an AR you can own the entire parts kit without any issue. but if you own an AR then having both is illegal and a one way ticket to pound town.

Not true you can file for a certain FFL that allows you to build Class 3 items post 86. Its how vegas FA ranges stay in business.

ETA: its not as easy as just file and you get it. there are certain restrictions, my point is that there are post 86 full autos.

Yes but you can not own them. It has to sTay in possession of that FFL. So that's why you can demo them, but they can only sell them to LEO and MIL under a proper purchase order. Ie, me as MIL can't buy one for personal use. Has to be bought for line of duty work.

You can not buy post 86 period, it has to be bought by your department/Government and issued to you for work.

They are called samples and are nontransferable to the general public.
