M700 won't eject

A total of 40 rounds have been through this rifle and it now won't eject. It'll pop it out of the ramp area, but not much further or out of the chamber.

Any thoughts?

I've had this happen once or twice and normally the plunger(for lack of a better term) is stuck down. You can see it when looking at the bolt face. You can fix it by cleaning around the top of it and then taking something and pushing down on it usually solves the problem for me. Except when this happens to me it doesn't even come off of the bolt face so this may not be your problem.

K, thanks gotch....I was actually just looking at the parts list on the Rem site. What do you suggest I use to push the pin through....don't really want to screw up a "newer" gun.

I just read that too actually filmit....problem is, I don't have a gunsmith within 100+ miles of me.

I also figured out that I have a snap in extractor. Just need to figure out how to get it out.

I have had the same thing happen on a 700. Check to see if the extractor claw lip is protruding its full length from the bolt recess.
If it is aways back underneath the bolt recess it probably doesn't have enough spring tension. You can simply slide the extractor around the side out of the recess and remove it, after its out, spread it apart a little bit.... keep in mind it is spring steel, it's hard and somewhat brittle, so don't break it, but it will take some force to bend, but if you do break it, they are under $20 and wasn't working before if it was setting in to far.

Mine was not springing out of the recess far enough and would just pull cases out of the chamber and sometimes drop them just outside the action port or sometimes flip them around and leave the case backwards on top of the next round to be fed.

Gotcha: I would, but after hearing everyones complaints on here recently...I don't even want to bother. Hahaha....just ordered one from Brownells....$18.** shipped. The fox season here starts on Oct 15...with decent fur, so I don't want to be out a gun. (I could be shooting yotes now, but they're not quite ready for a stretcher yet...two more weeks)

Thanks ore...that's exactly what was happening to me. I just pulled it out and it's worn pretty good, so I just ordered another one...as of right now, it's basically a single shot.

Removing the extractor almost always ruins it. It is almost impossible to get it out without bending it. Always replace it with a new one.

I must be lucky, I've had dozens of 700's and some of them I've put thousands of rounds through and never had an extractor fail. 40 rounds sounds awful premature for wear to me

+1 to that....

For some reason, I must get all the wrong ones, too...

Just curious, but I thought he said it extracted, but did not eject. Sounds like the extractor is working and the ejector is fubar.

I have shot a lot of rounds through a lot of 700s in the last 50 years and never saw a single extractor fail. I don't even know anybody who has had one fail. However I have seen a half dozen bolts ruined by people trying to put Sako extractors in them.
