Hi all,

I’ve just put together my first gear review on YouTube — it’s on the Mars MT1000 LRF by Oneleaf.
You can check it out here:

I bought this unit about 2 months ago with my own money after seeing a few other people talking about it on Youtube. I've taken it out for half a dozen hunts and am very happy with it's performance so far and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap thermal unit that has a tonne of features.

What I like:

  • Very well priced for what you get — built-in LRF and ballistics calculator for around $2100 AUD (base model).
  • Solid and well-made unit with good overall build quality.
  • Interchangeable lenses make it easy to tailor the setup depending on your target species or hunting style.
  • Great customer service — Oneleaf seems to actually listen to feedback and has been proactive in fixing issues.

What I don’t like:

  • Too many colour palettes. If you skip the one you want, you have to cycle through all 12 to get back to it.
  • The LRF on the side feels a bit awkward when carrying the rifle on a sling.
  • No Wi-Fi or Bluetooth output, so a spotter can’t see what you’re doing.

I have had an issue where the recorded files can be watched on a computer but if I import them into Fincal Cut and try to edit a video there is some corruption and I can't export the edited video. No problem loading the file straight to Youtube, only when trying to edit. Not sure if this is a Oneleaf Problem or a Mac problem but it did reduce the amount of footage I could use in the review.

Final thoughts:
My Thermtec Hunt 335 Clip-On has been just as much a headache to use as it has been fun and I've had no end of frustration as it's struggled to hold zero when being changed between rifles. Having a dedicated thermal scope that holds zero has made a world of difference. I'll be selling the clip on and using this one exclusively.

If mine was lost, stolen, or damaged, I’d replace it in a heartbeat.

Very comprehensive clip indeed.

These units are a fantastic thermal in every respect and truely are a great buy.

I think this unit will refine the market and I'D HATE TO BE TRYING TO SELL A USED UNIT UP AGAINST THE MARS 1000 because they smash most older units and match the best of most other hi end new brand name models. Most monocurs with much lower specs can't match the performance feature or price than the Mars 1000 scope

I have owned a number of thermals both scopes, clip ons and hand held monoculars from Hikmicro [AGM] and Pixfra before adding the Oneleaf Mars 1000 thermal scope to my current collection of 4 units.

It has by far the best specs which accounts for it rediculasly great picture quality, the best rangefinder detection wise and overal performance.
It's now my go to rifle mounted thermal.

At their current price they offer by far the best value for money thermal on the market by thousands of dollars with all the best features and options as atandard equiptment with 3 lens sizes that are interchangable. 35mm 50mm and 70mm

I am yet to use the 70mm len but have heard and seen good things so far. I mainly use the 50mm which suits my high powerd rifles for the longer ranges keeping the 35mm for my rimfires.

Defiately worth looking in too.

everyones needs are different , personally i have no interest in videos , pictures , wifi , bluetooth , etc. .. not buying these features reduces overall cost of the unit .. i just want a quality 640 scope to hunt with .. my new oneleaf mars mt 1000 arrived 2 weeks ago and so far i am impressed .. for now i am using the mars as a scanner and leaving my 384x288 on my rifle , doing this will give me plenty of side by side comparison so at a later date i can decide which scope i prefer on the rifle and which scope i prefer to scan with ..

Hey Dave, good to hear you like the Mars MT1000. I have been viewing this scope on Youtube and it seems to have garnished very good comments. The price for a 640 resolution can’t be beat.

Hey a man after my own heart

Glad to see a fellow yote hunter affiliated with one leaf.I am as well

Great job on the video
I'm trying to get time to put some out there like that myself. But I run a business, and it just keeps me so occupied

Not to mention them up to my nose occupied in developing about three calibers right now and some custom rifles

Just wanted to stop in and say, you're doing a great job.Keep up the good work

You should look into using that h d m.I micro output
Get yourself a little converter adapter
And you can mount your android phone on your tripod and scan
Also record
Without even wrapping up around the rifle

Makes for real easy scanning back. And forth of the field while you are calling

I don't see how this would be a very viable outfit calling coyotes. It might work well enough on daytime outfit for PD's, chucks, etc. Admittedly, I haven't tried it and could be wrong, but I would like to see some footage of you using it on coyotes at night during hunting conditions. I've never seen where scanning with the rifle works very well.

Its on a tripod
it swivels like your head

what do you do with a Rix pocket thermal like a K3 that I own ?

You put it to your eye and you swivel ...

not too hard to figure out

Hi All

I'd mentioned in my previous review that I was having trouble with the recorded footage not wanting to co-operate with the MacOS video editing program.

Oneleaf have since provided a workaround where I need to change the framerate and it's worked.

Here is the footage from a fox hunt last night:

My sample of one would not hold zero and the BC reticle was above the center. Basically opposite. I would range the target and the new aim point would be in the top cross hair. All my data was put in the scope. Went to the range 4x. The POI shifted each time and was not consistant. Scope was mounted properly. Sample one of one. Other than that, very impressive optic.

That's disappointing. I think there are a few of us on here watching for reports and developments on this one.

Pass on a thermal that won't hold a respectable zero. Reminds me of the mess I experienced with the Pulsar XP-50. After posting details here, along with other owners, and mentioning a Class Action Lawsuit, I was contacted by Pulsar and given a full refund including shipping and tax.

Others apparently never were compensated and were refused a cash refund.

I really miss the ease of operation and features of the XP-50 but my Trijicon hasn't needed a zero adjustment in several years.

I've had mine since July and it has held zero fine. Again, as stated above, a sample of one. I can't say that the next 50 scopes would do as mine has done, but I can speak for mine. Although I did plug all the ballistics into the program, I quit using it early on. I didn't really like the green diagonal crosshair. If I ever get a coyote hung up at 350 yds. or so I might try it, otherwise I'd rather just have it turned off.

That's a shame it's not holding zero.

I missed a few easy ones over the weekend, but when I checked the zero shooting from a flat surface it was dead-on, so it must have been me. (I didn't have a tripod)
