Most accurate 9mm?

New toys rock and I don't want to deter you from getting a semi if that's what you REALLY want. But I have done a ton of the same hunting you plan on doing and a 22mag rifle with a red dot may be your ticket. I use one with an illuminated reticle and it works sweet. If you use a 44mag or 41mag, you will likely regret your purchase, at least for these activities, but I own both.

For strictly a pistol, I really think a S&W 357mag shooting 38sp. lead wadcutters will do the ticket. A lot less report, hardly any recoil, very accurate, and like the others said, you can still move up to javelina or coyotes with it if you want. Only my opinion, but I don't think you could go wrong.

The Browning HP with Adjustable Sights is the best and most accurate i have tried for out of the box . /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

yep. I agree and still have one.

rolly,
I may go with a Henry .22 Mag. with open sights. It would be very practical for my varmint hunting purposes.

I'm curious as to why you'd think a .44 Mag. to be a bad choice/purchase. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif I've given a Ruger Bisley Hunter some consideration, as a dual purpose weapon. I could use light load specials for the varmints and still load up some "full house" loads in the fall for whitetails. I'd trust a revolver to have excellent accuracy, more so than any semi-auto.

Thank you, to all that have replied. Your information has been very beneficial for making a good purchase, at a later date. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I really wnated a pisol, in either 45acp or 9mm, but to get one with the accuracy that I'm after, it would be $600 or more. I still might purchase one, at a later date. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I purchased a Henry lever-action rifle, in .22 Mag. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
I intend to install a set of Williams fiber optic sights or a peep sight. For now, I've got a Bushnell Bantam 2.5X installed on it.

The HK P7 is the most accurate 9mm I own. The Sig P226 is a close second. The brownings hi power and Berretas are plenty good for defense, but not as accurate as the sig or Hk.

Thanks, again, for all the pistol suggestions and information. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif

Both Federal 50gr. JHP and Winchester 40gr. JHP ammo performed very well, in my new Henry rifle. Also, I made no sight adjustments between the two different brands of ammo. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

The groundhogs are in trouble. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You may find you are getting pass throughs with those heavy bullet, and GH's which roll around after being hit and then dive down the hole. I used a 34 grain Winchester Supreme in my Marlin and it was very effective on groundhogs with chest hits. I killed a lot of GH's with that bullet.

My personal opinion is that the 50 grain is too heavy for GH's, and there are better bullets now for GH's than the old fashioned 40 grain HP. The Remington 33? grain Vmaxes shot well out of my Marlin, but I never shot any GH's with them.

But, regardless of what bullet you pick, you still need to place your shots properly.

Bowhunter,

EXCELLENT choice! For what you are doing I think the combo is perfect. I shoot the little vmax's in my 22mag(Marlin bolt with 3.5x10 50mm obj) on all fox and smaller varmints and have had super luck with them. It will anchor a 35lb coon in a heart beat with a head shot.

My reason on the 44mag being not the BEST choice for the game was more recoil, noice, cost of ammo and gun, than a simple ditch cougar and whistle pig exterminator. The last gun I bought, 2 months ago, I got a Ruger SBH Flattop 44mag and have always wanted one. I think they are nice guns, good caliber, but not the gun for the job. I will use it on close range deer and black bear, and the Taurus Tracker in 41 mag I have is my camping/hounding gun. Very light to carry and enough power to do what it's for.

Sweet little combo you got there. I think you will be very pleased. Still get the new fun toy down the road though....

CDR,
I realize shot placement is everything. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks for the "hot tip" on the ammo. I'll purchase some Winchester Supremes and see how they do on paper and I might as well pick up some Remingtons too. So far, this rifle is shooting everything that I put through it...very well. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
