My 6x45 Photos / case separation

Went to KSC today to go to the NASCAR races and met up with a forum member that was selling his new 6x45 18" New Frontier Armory upper. Job issue so he needed to move it. He gave me 60 rounds of Blackhills ammo to go with it. Actually left the races a little early so I could go home and do some shooting.

I mated it a DPMS lower and topped it with a WOTAC fixed 10X and weaver 30mm tactical rings. I fired about 10 rounds of my handloads I loaded up to just cycle it quickly and no malfunctions. I then sighted it in using the blackhills ammo I was given. It grouped about 1.25 with factory loads. I also moly tumbled about 300 75gr V-max's so they should be ready to go to and I can start working up a load for it. I moly coated the bullets for round identification more than anything. None of my 223 stuff is moly coated and it should make keeping them separate easy. The test 10 rounds I fired off quickly was loaded with 25gr of X-terminator powder, no signs of pressure. X-terminator is what I am going to use because I have several pounds of it and it works well in my 223 loads. I am sure there is better but thats what I am using till its gone. This thing is for hunting not punching paper so if I can get 1MOA or better I will be pleased until I get some different powder.

The fit and finish of the upper is clean, I am very pleased so far. I will say that until I saw that a forum member was selling his 18" I was holding out for a 20", I think the 18" was the right decision for me, with scope, mount, and lower its still fairly light weight.

I will post some paper when I get some handloads worked up.

Whats your total weight as it sits there?
Does it feel nose heavy?
I just ordered the 20" for antelope out here.

Actually its fairly well balanced (empty mag in photo) and the photo is misleading as you can rest an AR on a ledge /wall or a square post and the 30rnd mag hold it in place and keeps it from tipping backward. The rifle handles much batter than I thought. The barrel contour is just about right for the type of hunting I plan to do.

I just weighed the rifle with a full 10rnd mag in it 9.4 lbs

I just got off the phone with a buddy and told him so far out of all the AR type weapon I own I really like this one the best. This thing just feels right to handle and shoot. I think once I get it worked up for good loads it will be a killer. Plus....being super simple to reload for makes it an even better setup. Form, function, and price point came together, New Frontier Armory I believe has a winner here.

can you tell me where he found the black hills ammo. is it factory loads or did he hand load it. if it is factory is the head stamped for 6x45
 
Just do it like I'm gonna, and convert all your AR's to 6x45 and size all your brass, then head stamp won't matter.
 
Call les Baer and they have some Black Hills factory ammo. 85grs or 100grs. Little heavy for some coyotes if you are keeping fur. KAG glad you like the upper. Hope to see some pics once it gets broken in.
 
Ok been playing with different loads for a few hours and this is the best so far.

75gr moly coated V-max / 25.8gr X-terminator / seating 2.250 / CCI 400 primers. Its an old Pizza hut box I was shooting up. No idea what the flyer to the left is about, it was the #4 of 5 shots. I did not see any signs of excess pressure. I shot the same 10 pieces of brass x6 before getting the load I like.I would just shoot 5 rounds of a specific load then shoot the other 5 then go reload them. The black hills brass has tight primer pockets. They are marked WCC 10 for a head stamp.

This one is a little blurry as the target is shot up from load development. I shoot these targets till you can't really use them. Not cheap, just too lazy to keep walking out there and putting up new ones.

Thanks guy, I love the upper. Just smooth and sweet. I plan on using the 100gr Blackhills ammo you gave me on hogs in the spring....if I can ever save the money for the trip to Oklahoma or Texas. Keep buying uppers....

I honestly would not buy ammo if you can in someway somehow reload it, its the easiest round I reload for. Its even easier than 223 because the bullets are a little bigger. The small 223 bullets sometimes are tough to pick up.

No I haven't shot any of the 65gr Vmaxs. For me one of the main reasons I went to a 6mm was to shoot bullets between 70-85gr bullets. I am not an expert but I personal feel the perfect predator bullet is somewhere between 70-85grs. From seeing coyotes shot with bullets in this range it just hammers them DRT.

We should have both 18's and 20's rolling out for sale Monday at the latest. We're going to add them to our webstore too to make for easier ordering.
