Need opinions on vortex optics.

I'm wanting to buy vortex scope for my AR rock river varmint A4. I'm wanting MOA reticle with MOA turrets. Using this for coyote hunting and paper punching. Won't be shooting last 400 yards. Any suggestions?

I have a crossfire2 6x18 not a bad scope imo. specially for the price. also have a viper 6.5x20x44pa BDC love it! and it tough too. I have a old building I some times lay on to glass and shoot long range yotes from its a slanted tin roof and I set my gun on its bipod next to me while I glassed. had the legs extended all the way(23"). then I bumped it....it tipped over out of my reach down the slope landing on the windage knob very hard. then slid down the roof till it hit my ladder scope first of course. thankfully thats where it stopped. oh crap I thought so I climbed down and walked over to my shooting bench. shot 3 @200,300,&400 yards. no issues

one tiny scratch on my knob but no damage that I could find, that was 150 rounds ago.

Great products, great pricing, no BS warranty. Pretty much a great buy.

For 400 yard max, I'd play with your MPBR and use hold over vs cranking dials. Any further and turrets are nice. But I can accurately (field accuracy) engage targets around 500 before I need to crank. JMO

I own the folowing Vortex products:
6-24x50 PST FFP
4-16x44 Viper HS
Strikefire Red/Green Dot
15-45x60 Viper HD Spotting Scope
Summit SS Tripod
Talon HD Binoculars

I am extremely happy with all of these, and I am planning on buying a PST 2.5-10x44 for my AR, as well as a few others next year. Great customer service, military discount, unbeatable warranty, best quality for the price you pay. You won't be disappointed. Welcome to the Vortex brother!

Looking at getting the Viper HS-T 4-16x44 for my target/varmint AR. Anything to say about this scope? I would like the 2.5- whatever but it doesnt have MOA turrets like I want.

I have owned half dozen vortex scopes, vipers,PST models
Right now i own none
If you dont know the difference between FFP and SFP just stick with SFP.
Matching knobs and reticle are a big help though.
Youve got alot to learn grasshopper
spend some time at snipershide for lots of info.

Just an observation, but every time I stumble into a Vortex thread there is usually some mention of "Great customer service". It's not necessarily a bad thing that they have great customer service, they should. But my point is, if it get used so much that you are always hearing or reading about it, what's that tell you about their product?

I personally don't own Vortex, I have looked at their stuff when shopping binos and can't say I saw anything wrong or of lackluster quality, but i just had a thought.

Hmmm,..........

Viper PST 2.5-10 EBR-MOA reticle. Should be great for the close shots and still allow longer range shots. I don't have any personal experience with this particular scope but I have a diamondback 4x12 on my .243 and it's a great scope.

I bought my first ever Vortex scope for my new build. It's a Viper HS 4x16x44. It took all of 7 shots to get it sighted at 100 yds. I adjusted it some as I settled on a final load. It responded very well at all times. After final sighting in I have shot 65 rounds and it hasn't shifted at all. Good enough for me.

I have a Vortex Diamondback 3.5x10x50mm and it is very clear and brite. I like it better at long range target work than my Nikon Buckmaster 4.5x14x40mm. I also have a red dot SPARC that I currently have on my 12 gauge Mosberg. It rides nicely on my Ar's too either at 45 degrees or on top.

No problems with either.

I have a Vortex Viper HS 6x24x50 on one of my varmint rifles. I like the scope, no problems. This is my first Vortex anything so I can't recommend any their products other than the one I own.

Vortex will cover a scope failure even if it's your fault. I read on another forum that a guy one way or another ran his binos over and they sent him a new set. I have 3 viper 6.5-20 scopes including one sitting in the box on a shelf waiting and two pairs of binos. I'm getting a set of kiababs In January with my work bonus. They are great optics

Ideally nobody should need to contact customer service for a product issue. However, Vortex's VIP warranty is a big selling point as it covers user error, not just product failure.

Vortex has good products AND good customer service. Many companies do not have both.

Stating they have good customer service, and a good warranty, is a fact. Its not a sign of a higher than average failure rate.

Also keep in mind, customer service covers a broad range of areas from repair of failures due to their actions or yours to answering an email or phone call and addressing a question. I have used their customer service several times for asking questions about their products both before and after the sale and they were excellent to deal with. I needed more than the usual amount of zero stop shims due to my particular application, they sent them to me no questions asked along with a hat and T-shirt. I've not had a failure yet out of my Viper PST and don't expect one, but have had a good experience with their customer service.

I am considering upgrading my AR optics as well in the future. I'm looking at the 4x-16x PST MOA SFP. I love my 6x-24x PST, but it is too much power for a potential calling rifle IMO. My buddy got the 4x-16x for his 264LBC and it is just about right I think. 2.5x-10x would be a great power range as well if you hunt a little more than you punch paper.

I have a 4-12 diamondback and a 6-20x44 viper and love both of them. They are both very clear with good eye relief. If u are not looking to spend a whole lot I think the diamondback would be a good choice at $200. If money isn't an issue, any of them would be great!

As far as customer service, I have never used my warranty but have called in to ask question. Talked to a real nice fella about a sunshade for the diamond back and he informed me they did not make one but he did take the time to go to the warehouse, grab one, measure the threads/inside of the bell/depth just incase I wanted to get one made or find one with the same specs. Even gave me the numbers for some camera companies that might be able to help me out. Heck of a nice experience and good people.

the benefit (in a nutshell) is that reticle in the FFP will change size with magnification. This is useful for ranging reticles (e.g. mildot) as this makes the measurements (subtensions) accurate at any power setting. A reticle in the SFP stays the same. This is why in the manual for ballistic reticles in the SFP they will say it is only accurate at one power setting (usually the highest).

Which one is better really depends on your use.

Some additional reading I found.

I believe what people are reffering to when they say "great customer service" is the no BS warranty I have owned a pair of vortex diamond back binoculars for over 3 years now and have nothing t complain about. I just recently purchased a vortex diamond back 4x12 and have no problems with it. great optics for the price. I am also waiting for some funds to pic up a PST in either 2.5x10 or 4x16 for a long range scope. it is nice to know that if I leave my binos on top of the rig and drive off and they fall off on the highway I can pick up the pieces send them in and have no problems getting them replaced or repaired. cand say that about my Iphone, laptop, ect. \

leupolds also have the same lever of customer service and warranty but I bet you wouldn't have to second guess that purchase would ya
