New England Hunt '06?

New member
Hey guys,I was just reading about the Globe hunt and thought"Wouldn't it be great if there was a hunt in the Northeast for us fellas up here?"

I'm sure there must be alot of members here in the northeast like myself that can't possibly get to AZ,and would find even a trip to the LBL hard to justify to the missus. However,I'm sure I could get down to Maine for a few days.I spend alot of time at camp in Charlotte Cty.NB,only a good rifle shot from the border anyhow.Heck, the missus wouldn't even know i was outta the country! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Seriously though,I'm thinking Maine, but open for suggestions.I know nite-hunting is allowed after Dec.,and I beleive other licences, fees etc are pretty reasonable?Hunting access?Guide requirements for non-residents?Accommadations?Sunday hunting?Let's hear some suggestions!

I realise there is a ton of work involved in putting on an event like the LBL or Globe, but if we could even get 10-20 guys together for a few days of hunting,call-swappin' and story tellin I think we could consider the 1st Annual NE hunt a success. It could be a great opportunity to meet hunters from around the region, make new friends, share some tactics and post some pics and stories.

So...what do you think? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gifAny takers?I guess the 1st step should be to get some feedback here to see if there is enough interest? If so,we'll need some volunteers to step-up and help make this happen.I'm willing to do what I can from up here to help out.January will be here soon enough so let's get this ball rollin'.Hey...did I just see a snowflake?

Sounds like it would be a good time to drive up to Maine from Virginia and let the wife visit with all her family there in Westbrook ME. Her Mom, sister, brothers, yeah that'll work for me. I'll do it.

Could be the start of something Rrrrrrrreal big. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
This is how the LBL hunt got started. Now it's in the process of becoming an official, additional PM Hunt.

However, we cannot allow you to call this a PM hunt as of yet... in which case we could be held liable for a number of things.

Ooops, sorry about the name thing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gifI thought about that while I was out this afternoon.Good to see someones payin' attention. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I think It's a great idea. You boys would love to meet and swap techniques and ideas. You get a chance to hear others calling styles and learn from them.

While you may have interest the first thing you need is an area large enough to handle it and allow it to grow over the years. One of our biggest problems when we began the LBL hunt was deciding on such an area.Luckily Lbl allows for hunters from two states so a wider varety of options are available for folks to choose as lodging and hunting areas. Neither states liscense cost's are so high as to be out of reach for the average hunter's pocket book. With all of its zones we could easily handle forty teams of hunters and no one would be calling behind another team. We had more than thirty hunters last year and I only ran across Stan and Ilcoyote the whole weekend. I think I might have met KyRAy on one of the roads once but not sure.

So given this experience, I don't think you will need anything that large at first . But looking for a public hunting area with at least a hundred square miles is a good idea. LBL is ten miles wide by forty long for four hundred square miles.

Second would be coyote populations. Vermont and Maine both are reputed to have good healthy populations of coyotes and other predaotrs. Something on the border would be really good, but either state would fill the bill I belive.

Good luck , and I hope you can put it together. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gifJimmie

Jimmie, I'll second that.

As one of the creators of the LBL "get together" Jimmie knows from experience how much planning and dedication it takes to pull off a good hunt.

If I may take a moment...
Some members may not be aware but without Jimmie's input, dedication, hard work and LBL expertise the first LBL hunt would have never happened, this I know. Having someone onboard that knew the proposed hunting area was and still is a great asset. Many here have generously given their effort and support to help make the "LBL" a great yearly tradition. May Will Craig's dream live on!
This year will be our fourth thanks to dedicated people like my friend Jimmie in Ky. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

From one of the LBL gang... I wish you all the best. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I'd love to join in on the hunt. Sounds like us southern boys would have to car pool because of the gas prices but I think it'd be great to hunt in Maine. I'm new to predator hunting but what better way to learn than get together with a bunch of 'yote hunters and listen close to them. Anyways, I'm in. And if we're gonna all get together and anyone is from around WV and want to get together and join up to save on the gas let me know!

Thanks Chet for the kind words. And I do hope I will see you back again this year.Things got way too busy for me last year and I didn't get the chance to talk to all my friends. See if you can drag Bopeye along with you.It would be real nice to have all the original partners in crime together again.

These little get togethers can be a very good thing for all of you. If you cant make the LBL OR Globe hunts you can try to set things up in your own states. Predator Masters can't sanction them all but you can meet and share what you know with others nearby once a year.Set them up for a day or weekend camping trip. There are some Ky hunters who do this each chance they get in the lbl during Turkey and deer seasons. So why not a bunch of crazy coyote hunters?

I know each state has at least one public hunting area that can handle a dozen or so hunters easily. One hunter living nearby can do the scouting and leg work to make it more sucsesful for all. The main thing is folks get to learn from each other first hand and not just sitting at a keyboard. Jimmie

Count me in.What part of Maine do you think we can Hunt?It would be nice if some of the guys from Maine could pick the area to call.Either way you can count me in if it isn't a busy time for me at work.

Great idea, count me in. We could have the hunt in conjuction with WCF&WCA Winter Coyote Derby (the one that got all the press last winter), or we could go farther north to more open county with more critters.
