Thanks Chet for the kind words. And I do hope I will see you back again this year.Things got way too busy for me last year and I didn't get the chance to talk to all my friends. See if you can drag Bopeye along with you.It would be real nice to have all the original partners in crime together again.
Jimmie

Jimmie,
Now don't go holding your breath, but I'm gonna see what I can do about this February. I'm so out of practice at hunting coyotes, I'm sure I'll look like a greenhorn, but I never really was that good anyway. Sure do enjoy it though.

The "original partners in crime"......that sounds like a movie or something. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hope you boys in New England can get something going. I work with a boy from Maine........he say's it's wonderful country to hunt. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Well boys,

living here in Maine I can tell you this; We had a hunt last year and the tree huggers came out in droves. Said a competition hunt was bad bad bad. I know that some of the boys on this site were involved. I would imagine they may try it again this year. I am sure they will read this at some point.

Just don't give them the ammo of a competition hunt. The way I see it a bunch of good ole boys getting together to learn from each other and swap stories is none of their bussiness. The bill of rights covers us just as it covers them. We have the right to gather and share what we believe in. If there are no dollars involved it's not news worthy and that is not what they want. Tv exposure is the only way they can advertise that folks will see.

If you make it a competition then you get all kinds showing up.The good the bad and the ugly! Make it a good thing for all of you and enjoy meeting each other.

And watching TV now aday's get's me tickled. Peta has got to be screaming over the chicken is only good for one thing commercial by Hardy's. The world is turning fellas and folks are getting tired of the crap. Jimmie

So far no date set.In fact, nothing really has has been done yet, other than there seems to be enough interest in making this happen.Sooo..I'll try and get this ball rollin.

So far i've been in contact with Mainekiller in regards to scheduling it in conjunction with the WC hunt.I know you fellas got some flak over that last year and when I suggested it to John I was thinking it would support his club through increased entries, and give us a little competition for those who were interested.Hopefully their hunt will go smoothly without the bunny-huggers this year.I know John must be very busy with the new baby, hunting seasons getting underway, prepping the trapline, and working on this MPHA with you other fellas. There was mention in the MPHA thread of organising a hunt as well,so why not get that part started?

I guess the first thing we should do is get some ideas from you Maine fellas on a location. To be honest, when i started this thread i was dreaming about having a hunt here in the GWN with tens of thousands of acres of public land, decent access in winter, lots of coyotes and virtually no hunting pressure on them, but with Canada's $50 gun tax at the border, and New Brunswick's guide requirements, the govt. has managed to take the fun out of it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gifSome of the area I hunt here is only a good rifle shot from the border anyhow,so I suggested Maine where we can nite hunt as well.I'm assuming the terrain and topo is just like home, but I know nothing about your laws regarding access,private/public land,pulp/lumber company lands, hunting leases etc?

It looks like we have about 20 members interested so far,and it's early yet,so assuming we get 30-50 in attendance we'll need an area that:
Is large enough to support 15-25 teams
Has a good population of coyotes(no brainer)
Has decent access in winter(plowed roads)
Accomadations as close to hunting as possible(cabins would be nice as opposed to motel?)
Meeting place?
Set a date
What else....? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Perhaps one of you Mainers could give us a breif summary of any special game laws that may apply?Firearm/caliber restrictions?Guide requirements?Licence/access fees?Nite hunting?Sunday hunting?

I dunno guys, let's hear some suggestions?I don't think this has to be real difficult?Let's pick a spot.Find a place to stay.Go huntin'!We all have puters and can download topo-maps,do some scouting from home, meet Thursday/Friday nite, get the scoop from local boys on the road/fur conditions and have at'er!

Let's getter done! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Hi Guys. New comer from Maine here. I think a hunt in Maine would be a great idea. If it helps at all I have camps in the western mountains, lots of coyotes and thousands of acres to huntI would be willing to provide camps for lodging or a base of operations.

Welcome aboard meguide.Now ya see fellas,that didn't take long!OK,there's one suggestion,Western Mountains(more specific? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif),lotsa coyotes,lotsa land,place to sleep.Anybody else? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

grinr
More specific would be the Eustis area. If you look at George Ackleys entry on his first Maine coyote that coyote was shot while staying at my camp. And there was many more where that cam,e from. As far as the night hunt. There are no fire arm restrictions other than the gun can hold no more that 5 rounds, no guide requirements, license fees are very reasonable, Sunday hunting is not permitted.

Eustis??? That would be an awesome area! Just north of my camp and as meguide say's, lotsa of land, lotsa coyotes....

Gee whiz I hope we can put this hunt together!!!!!!

Hey Guys, the WC hunt will be over the entire winter and not on a specific weekend so planning our hunt with theirs is not an option. I will give you more details on their hunt when I get it.
I have my hands full so I will leave the planning up to you guys. Suggestions for areas: Downeast--- heavily wooded, lots of land to hunt and a decent coyote pop but very hard to get,
Northeast Maine---- lots of farmland and paper company land, good coyote pop and excellent fox pop. Permission is easy, just ask the farmer and mention yotes and you are in, no permission needed in the woods (paper company). Those are the only 2 areas of Maine that I know well.

Oh yeah, if any of you guys havn't e-mailed me with your name and contact info please do so. Need more help and names to start MPHA. See the: Maine hunters(night hunting cats and fox) thread under this forum for more details.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif I love it when a plan comes together /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gifJimmie

Spoke to grinr on the telephone tonight and it looks like we can actually make this thing happen. If the interest is there and it looks like it is, all we need to do is pick a date so as not to interfere with the other hunts and I can start setting things up on this end. Need feed back.

Well there ya have it boys.HUNT IS ON!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gifI think we should pay a special thank you to one of PMs newest members,"Meguide",for his generous offer of the use of his cabins and the legwork he will be putting into this.As he said,we spoke last nite,he has 2 camps in the Eustis,ME area where he guides bear hunters(including one happy G.Ackley) which can accomadate 12-16 guys if we don't mind cots/sleeping bags.I sure don't mind! There is also motels in the area,Rodney will be looking into them for rates etc. and also maybe a location for a dinner.

Nothing is carved in stone yet,but we have dicussed possible dates and we're thinking the weekend of Jan.21st,halfway between the Globe Hunt and LBL,for those who may want to make it to one or both of those events.

Our host, Rodney Gagnon, will be away from the computer hunting next week, but we will try and get more details posted as they become available.I will work on some kind of sign-up sheet or you can just pipe up now if you're in for sure ,as I said, cabin space may be limited depending on the turnout, judging from the response so far I am sure they will be full. We'll get some info posted or links to hunting regs/fees etc. ASAP.

That's it for now I guess? As Jimmy said"I love it when a plan comes together!" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

How is accessibility arround the area at that time of the year?? Is night hunting allowed??

Count me in /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif.
