New Ruger American .22LR

From the looks of it, it appears to use the 10/22 rotary magazine...That Compact version would make a nice little rimfire truck rifle...

Check out the video, there are several nice features built into that one! And, unlike most, the price doesn't double or triple for the magnum version. In fact, it doesn't even increase!

if its anything like their regular center fire ruger American rifles its disappointing. so much for "rugged and reliable" more like cheap and fragile...

Where the H#(( is that popcorn emoticon when I need it.

Looks like Savage has official competition.

The only center fire Ruger that I have owned, that didn't have acceptable hunting accuracy, was a Mine 14. The Mini wasn't designed for hunting. It was designed to kill and wound humans. Every other center fire Ruger that I have owned, shot from good to great and was very durable.

This looks like another great product from Ruger. I'll bet they are a lot less expensive at the store than they are on Rugers website. I'll be checking them out for sure.

kygunco.com had both calibers in stock last week at 249.95 each. I would be interested in trying one out.The one interesting note is a listing as an 9 round magazine, I assumed they would be the 10 round rotary.

In .22 LR yes 10 but .22 Mag 9 rounds

Well after work today I stopped by my lgs and lo and behold they had 3 American rimfires on the rack- 1 standard in .22LR and 2 compacts-1 in .22LR and 1 in .22WMR. The compact .22WMR was marked $299. Got them down to $285 and I left with it figuring one in hand was better than scouring around the net hunting for one. I think it will make a super handy lightweight calling rifle for the periods when I can't use a centerfire by regulations. Got it home, cleaned the bore, and shot it a few times with the irons. It functioned fine and I rang my 25 yd gong readily. Will be ordering some bases to get a scope on it to see what it will do. The 18" barrel is about .660 at the muzzle so it should be fairly stiff and accurate hopefully. I like it- it is a compliment to my American 22-250.

Not familiar with the Savage 93 but the forearm flexes easily with pressure but seems a bit stiffer than the American 22-250. The barrel is free floated- I don't use an attached bipod but typically rest the forearm atop shooting sticks at about the end of the scope-so forearm flex is not too big an issue for me. The mag is the standard 9 round(.22magnum) Ruger rotary box as used in the 77/22.

So I assume it will take hi capacity 10/22 mags as well?

Yeah the .22LR version takes the 10-22 mags and the extended mags like the BX25 or others. I don't know of any extended versions for the 10-22 in .22WMR but 9 is plenty for a calling bolt rifle. Jeff Quinn at Gunblasts has a good video up for the .22LR version.

Was playing around with the rifle shooting it some more this am and there is definitely no buyer's remorse but instead 'buyer's endorse'. This is a super handy lightweight .22 magnum that balances in the hand like a dream(unscoped). Heck it is a tad shy of 36"- sort of like carrying a yard stick with punch. Hopefully it will be a real shooter but it doesn't have to be an Annie for its intended use.

My Marlin does shoot real good but like the adjustable trigger on
the Ruger.
