Nightforce scopes

Does anyone have a Nightforce scope, especially one in 3.5-15x? If so I'd like to hear about it. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want one with a velocity reticle. I'd like to know a little about how they work, at night, at long distances, etc. Does someone need a rangefinder with this scope? These questions might sound dumb to some, but when it comes to scopes, especially sophisticated ones like this I have no experience. Thanks--

NF NXS's are great optics, as of now I have 4, and the 3.5-15X56 works awesome, I'm running the NP-R1 reticle and have taken it out to about 1200yds with my 260, and utilized the 5.5-22X56 with the NP-R2 on my 338NM and hit MOA targets past 2000yds, I don't night hunt, but this line of scopes offers illuminated reticles and would work very nice for lowlight conditions.

I've got a NF NXS in 3,5-15x50 with NP-R1 ret. It was a hard payment to make, but well worth it. Ive not used the illum' part yet, but the fine x-hairs are real nice for waaaay out.

Yes, I use a RF aswell.

I own three of them, and wouldn't hesitate to get another. Very spendy but lifes too short to look through inferior optics.

If only more people understood your POV.

I haven't been flamed in a while so here goes. For the everyday Joe that chases coyotes for fun,or punchs paper on the weekend, they are overpriced. IMO The're are alot of scopes out there that will do just as well as a NF. No, I don't own one. But, I have looked and shot through several and just didn't bang my gong that much. Who is going to spend $1400/$1800 bucks and tell you they don't like the scope. IMO, very few. Are they great, are the bullet proof, probably answer yes to both questions. I have Vortex, Sightrons, Burris, and Nikons that serve me well enough. If I miss a yote or a deer I not going to say "Dang, if I woulda had a NF, I might not have missed." This is just an opinion and you know what the say about opinions. Flame On Boys!!

Completely valid point, your 100% correct!!! IF if KNEW I wasn't going to engage a coyote beyond 400yds, and didn't need the turret system or the NP-R1 or R2 for hold over, I wouldn't use them either... wait, yes I probably still would... But I still agree with your point pyscodog.

Skinney and to all, truth be known. With my eyes, I actually get better clarity through my Sightrons and Nikons. Why, I don't know. The NF scopes, however great they are, just don't work with my eyes. I have several bud's with several NF scopes and for some reason, they just don't work for me. Thusly, I don't even try to buy one.

I would.
If I didn't like it I'd sell it or throw it in the garbage.

There's lots more folks buy crap scopes and tell you they like them.

I had the same issue, but at the promting of a friend of mine, I tried one more time, and he let me take the time to adjust the ocular to suit my eye and the issue went away. His scope was a S&B and untill I set it for my eye, it was not near as clear as my scope, but after....wow, what a difference. High end glass for me from now on.

Yes Sir !
My $ doesn't come easy, never has and never will. If I spent 1400/1800 bucks on a scope and it was chit,I'd still be [beeep]'n bout it. Like all good stuff, if you take care of it and need to sell someday, most of the $ you paid will be recouped.

Am I happy to have a couple NF's ? Yes. Am I proud I spent all that $$ ? Heck no !

I appreciate everybody's input. I've been back and forth looking at the new Burris laser scope and ACOG scopes too. I want to make the right choice as I can't buy a big money scope often. I just want a scope that will work well in all aspects and even be night vision compatible if I someday go down that road.

Do you have any suggestions for a scope? I'm looking for fast target acquisition, but also one for accuracy and clarity on long shots.

In the home improvement business we have a saying..a happy customer tells one person, an unhappy customer will tell 100.
If the same applied to scopes...well you do the math.
I love my new Nightforce more than i expected.

the NXS's models will get you very quick engagement, especially mid to long ranges if you use the reticle.

I have 3 NXS and love them. I went from USO, to NF and been much happier. These are on my LR rigs that I don't tote around much. Their awesome long range scope and they track perfect.

I run all NPR1 rets and they're pretty fine try, imo. Makes it great for LR shooting, but I could see it not being the best for fast
Engagement, imo.

If this is going to be a calling rig setup, I'd look for another scope. NXS are HEAVY and I wouldn't want one on my calling rig unless it was a lower power NXS (2.5-10)

Good post. Definitely getting a NF before Fall. The way I look at it, and who knows if this is a good way to look at it, but you spend the $ on the NXS with a Larue mount (I run all AR's), you can swap between multiple rifles and spread it out that way instead of buying scopes for each rifle. I would love to have several NF's but for now I can settle on that scenario. I don't know if this is a good way of going about it or not. The new MOAR reticle looks pretty sweet too.

Lotta good scopes out there...Trijicon's new 5-20 scope may be a good option for you. I have looked thru one and it compared very favorably to my NF 3.5-15x50. For hunting and paper punching, I would have probably gone with the Trijicon over the NF if it had been out when I bought my NF. SWFA sells the supersniper scopes which are an amazing deal/value for your money. Check out SWFA's OpticsTalk forum, ther are some really knowledgeable guys over there.
