Nightforce scopes

How about one of those Snowwis scopes?? Sorry guys, just had to do it!

I'm looking at the 2.5-10 zero stop, but am unsure which reticle. Kind of leaning toward the NXS 2.5-10 NPR2. They are 19 oz compared to 30 oz for the 3.5-15. Maybe a little faster acquisition, too. I appreciate all of your input.

Centurion, I really like those compacts too. You might want to look at the mil-dot reticle too. NF's mil dot is pretty cool with a 'see through' dot. Let us know what you end up with!

Of the NF I have looked through, I did like the mil dots better than the NPR2. They just 'popped' more for me. I have not looked through the NP1. The MOAR reticle really looks nice on the website. I have not seen one in person yet, I think they are just starting to ship these. Do a search on here on different NF reticles, there are some older posts that have really good pics looking through the scope. I am in the same boat basically, a couple months out from ordering one. They are tough, tough scopes that I would consider a lifetime investment. I know what you are going through deciding on which one! Really good advice from hardcore users like Skinney, Tim, and the other guys. It is a major purchase but I think you will really enjoy it! Again, let us know what you get!

Thanks, I'll be sure to do that. I plan on getting a new AR for it to go on. Probably Rock River Arms, possibly a Predator Pursuit or ATH Carbine. I won't start asking people which to get. I can't go wrong either way.

Just to add, I was referring to the compacts in regards to the mil dot and the NPR2. Have not seen the NP1, it looks nice though. In the 3.5-15 my choice would be the NPR1 until I got a chance to look at the MOAR reticle. Worst case if you really don't like it, NF will change out your reticle for a fee. The compact on an AR would be one sweet package.

I'm not quite "hardcore" worthy, but I'll except the compliment .

I run all NPR1 rets and they're pretty fine try, imo. Makes it great for LR shooting, but I could see it not being the best for fast
Engagement, imo.

If this is going to be a calling rig setup, I'd look for another scope. NXS are HEAVY and I wouldn't want one on my calling rig unless it was a lower power NXS (2.5-10)

I agree 100% with Mike's comments here.

While NF glass is plenty good, it is not all that "special", IMO. Or should I say, it is not what gives NF their edge on the competition and what separates them from the pack in quality and price, IMO. (Don't get me wrong, the glass is very good.) NF scopes are tough as nails, utterly reliable, and track extremely well. Reticle options are plenty good also. For LR shooting, I use NP-R1s on mine.

NF are not for everyone, and not needed. Save the 2-10x32, they are not ideal hunting scopes. Nor are they designed for hunting. They are LOGS to tote around, and as stated, target acquisition speed definitely suffers because of it.........

I agree totally with 2MG. His post is spot on. NF makes a great tool & a pretty decent scope. If you are spinning turret regular, tough on your equipment (jump out of airplanes or the equivilant), & want the best reticals available then they will suit your needs well (as long as you don't need the gun to be light). I would never think of putting a NF on a typical hunting gun. Unless the gun weighs ~11+ pounds already (something you generally wouldn't carry around) it really turns a gun into something cumbersome & aggrevation to carry (they are big & heavy).

I have a few NF & I like everything about them except their weight & glass

(2 of the most important things about a scope). Like 2MG the glass is not bad but for their price you can get much better glass, but you can't get a scope thats any better mechanically for even more money. Choose what you think is best for you. You'll likely be happy either direction you go (looking at this "class" of scopes, all are nice). Just don't get it because they are the "cool" thing going now.

On the reticle... I don't understnd why someone just "picks" mil-dot or NP-R2??? Do you use Mils or MOA? That should be your answer. Those stadia lines are there & spaced for a reason. Choose the one you will use & understand. For quick aquisistion (in point & shoot situations) the NP-1 Tim suggested is best of the options in a compact. If you are going to use your scope for ranging & holdovers the Mil-dot (if you use radian), NP-R2 & the new MOAR (I really like the looks of this one) would be good. For just hold-over the Velocity Reticle would likely suit you decent in hunting situations.

If I were buying a scope (in this price range) for a hunting gun to shoot coyotes, I'd look REAL hard at the Swarovski Z5.

Your welcome...you cant go wrong with NF. Where in NY are you?
BTW, I have a RR predator pursuit 16inch that I am thinking of selling, and its NY compliant. Send me an email if interested...its like new.

I run 2 NF's on my LR rigs and a Trijicon accupoint on my night hunting rig. The NF's are kind of heavy but the turrets are rock solid and repeatable. The glass is good, not Swarovski good but me and my partner seriously had a hard time seeing much differece comparing a 5.5x22 NF and a S&B PM II 5x25 and he owns them both.

If you wanna dial your turrets alot for long shots, buy a NF. But for my night time fox hunting I havent found anything better than my 3x9x40 Trijicon Accupoint with the little green mil dot.

i like my nxs tracks perfect good glass and i like how nightforce hides there illum under the sf, but i think my next scope will be an IOR Valdada 6-24x50 mp-8dot, ive been messing around with my buddys and i am very impressed.... and it saves you a couple hundred bucks

I have 3 and like them a lot. However, you can get by with a scope that costs less and still have fun. I like the eye relief and also enjoy wrenching on turrets when out shooting prairie dogs so they work well for me with the NP-R1 reticle. 2 of mine are 3.5-15x50's. I find that I prefer this power for hunting and shooting p-dogs over the 5.5-22. Every once in a while the 6x45 AR pictured below wears the NF for a late evening stand of yote hunting and the illuminated reticle is very nice. However, being a heavy optic and rather bulky it's not my choice for long hikes to a spot to call.

For bench or prone shooting at targets far off be it paper or sage rats, I really enjoy the NXS series with NP-R1.
