I missed that one!

I've had a new NF 2.5-10x32 sitting on a hunting rifle in the safe for a while. I finally took it to the range a couple of days ago to get it zeroed in.
It took a total of 4 shots.

It was a while back. You likely only overlooked it in one of the biggest train wreck threads ever (it even has pictures of train wrecks) . I hate to bring up link the original locked thread but... **open only if you want to waste several minutes of your life** (man I han't thought of 'ole S2 in a while

To save brain cells the following is the jist of it.

Just my thoughts!

Will try and get it done this weekend just to please you! But I gotta be honest it is no longer a $300 rifle! Dam $40 base and scope just ran up the price but I hope it will still keep you happy? I will even keep the sighter/fouler shots of the paper!

He also committed in a PM... still waiting...

To stay on subject... Looks like those "clicks" were just right to get you in the middle after one sighter! Great shooting with such medi-o-ker glass! That must be a FOUR hundred dollar rifle your using!

Yeah I had to open that old thread after I saw the thing about pictures of train wrecks. That thread went way south.

Nice shooting fw707!!

Thanks Pete!
I can't take much credit though. The dang rifle has shot like that as
long as I've owned it.
It shoots even better with 123 Scenars, but I think the 130 VLD's might be a better hunting bullet.

I never finsihed that one but nearly pizzed my self here at work. I forgot about how many times Doggin was using "word".

That old thread from last summer... I even had the wife pull up a chair and read that last nite! We were both laughing pretty good. You don't even really have to know what is even going on to get a kick out of that one! Oh well. The train wreck pics were classic.

um, not sure if this thread has gone on to bigger and better things but as far as nightforce scopes go i'd only mount them on a gun that i'm planning on doing some dialing with. if you dont dial they really are overpriced for the intended use. in my opinion if you want better glass, lighter scope and decent turrets the Zeiss conquest if the way to go. it isn't illuminated but they are very bright for shooting in a spotlight.

someone mentioned the IOR; the glass is definately better in the IOR, eye relief in the 3-18 that i had for a few years was lacking but they may have addressed that in newer models or with the 6-24. and they are significantly heavier than the NF. i really like that fat turret they use.

while i like my NF scopes they don't belong on every gun i own. IORs and Conquests go on just about everything else because of the glass quality.

honestly if you don't plan to shoot far enough that you need to dial to say double digit moa there really are a lot of scopes out there that are just as good for that application.

while a NF is ralatively heavy i don't hesitate to put them on a hunting rig. i heard a great quote that i'll continue to plagerize "why do guys that are 50lbs overweight complain about scopes that are 10oz too heavy?"

Yep, I agree.

Nightforce scopes are good, I've compaed my Leupold 6.5-20x50 to a NXS 5.5-22x56 and at high power The Nightforced seems to be slightly more clear, but this is a 1994 Leupold vs a 2001 Nightforce and 50 vs 56mm, but I was impressed with it none the less.

Some say or claim they are the best optics on earth or they have looked through and after porking down $1800 why not boost your morale some.

But to be true, Zeiss scopes are probably the best optics for clarity and also low light, but top models are well over $3000.

looking through a Zeiss with a 56mm at dusk vs a Nighjtforce 56mm at dusk would be like you turned the lights off on the nightforce. the coatings on the Carl Zeiss scopes are 2nd to none.
All this isn't going to matter deer hunting much or prairie dog hunting in the day. But 99.99999999999999% of the coyotes that come out are at night dusk and dawn, or low light conditions.

Many times I've been out hunting Coyotes and wait tell it gets late enough to see those coyotes start to come out, but can barely seem em at 7-8pm in october dusk at 400 yards.

With a 5-24x56mm Zeiss or even a $1000 6-24x50mm Zeiss, prob would have been able to hunt for another 1/2 hour while 100's of coyotes present them selfs in the safty of low light. or so they think.

Ziess makes a 6-24x72mm monser, the Ziess Hensoldt 6-24x72mm at $3800 I have heard of people hunting in moon light abd it's like daytime.

For the money though, it may be hard pressed to spend $1800 and get better than the Nightforce, or a Leupold VX4 lower quality optics than the German glass, but still high quality and the durability on them is great.

Nice 1st post, cept for this part .... laff'n.

Welcome to PM .

I agree with most of what has been said. There are other options out there for guys that don't need to spin turrets or throw their rifles out of airplanes. NF is not always the answer. When you do need one they do what they are suposed to.

For point & shoot rifles the conquests are one of the best values. The high end Ziess is one of the best (S&B aint bad either). However, I had a Ziess with turrets & HATED that the adjustments were backwards of leupy, NF, & Vortex. Sold it for that sole reason.
