Open Carry???

Oklahoma is about to pass the open carry law. I'm kinda on the fence about it. What are your thoughts? I just don't want to see "Gunfight at the OK Corral".

I, too, have some concerns about open carry. Main concern is it is like waving a red flag in front of a bull; the bull being the anti-gun crowd. Just stirs them up with no real gain and could motivate them to dream up all sorts of mischief.

Weapon retention is also more of an issue w/open carry than with CCW.

I would prefer to carry concealed and retain the element of surprise should the need ever arise.

Regards,
hm

Indiana has it, but I also subscribe to the thought that I would rather not let people know I'm armed. The bad guys don't give warnings, why should I give them one?

My reason for doubts- You are carrying open and you stop at a convience store for gas. Your at the desk paying and a robber comes in with a firearm. Who do you think he will shoot first? Makes me wonder!

The biggest plus of the open carry in Utah, for one, is the old "printing is brandishing" is gone. That's one advantage. On dis advantage is that there must be 3 mechanical actions to fire the weapon.

What does that mean?? And what about Glock people??

In Connecticut, we have open carry, but the police frown on it.

It means not one in the hole, so rack the slide (1), engage the trigger safe(2), pull the trigger(3). Strange, I know, but that's how it's written. Also the reason I don't open carry. Concealed can be ready to rock!

What about a revolver?? Cock and fire - or with a DA, just pull the trigger.

Why do they give us good laws, burdened with silly junk?

Im with hm1996. The element of surprise can be a good thing. And i would rather not be herrased by anyone. You know were stupid laws come from?? Stupid a** people who dont know there a** from a hole in the ground.

I'm with you on that - if I need to carry, I don't want any possible opposition to know it and be set up for me - I want them to think I am a helpless sheeple - it gives me the advantage.

For me, open carry is for a camping or hunting trip.

I open carry here...its why the corner store robbery isn't very common in PHX...constant reminder that we all have guns.

It is our constitutional right so I'm for it. Obviously in the outdoor world it is useful. In the city world it probably isn't really all that practical. Especially so after all the municipalities pass their own laws to make it illegal – and you can bet that will happen very soon.

I'd like to add- I'm definitely not against open carry it's just not "my thing"

Like the others. I'd rather have the element of surprise on my side

I would like to see the "Printing is brandishing" aspect disappear, but if and when it happens in Texas, I'll vomit every time I see a mall ninja strutting around in his 5.11 pants and boots and a big azz Glock 17 hanging from his thigh rig like Batman. I freakin hate those guys. "LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!"

While in AZ for work last year, I saw at least one individual that I would `rather not know` he was a carry`n
