Optics calibrated for 30-06

I have used lots of different glass over the years but have always had standard duplex reticles. Really am craving a scope for my 30-06 that would have hash marks for shooting out to 800 or so yards. Liking the looks of the DOA or Rapid Z reticles, but I'm sure there are others. I need nothing fancy, just calibrated for certain grain bullets @ a particular speed. Just wanting to do more long range shooting with this rig. I need glass good enough to see targets at these distances. What are my best choices?

BDC reticles for the most part are ballpark at best. They were designed for a specific projectile at a specific weight and a specific BC at a specific velocity. What are the odds of you hitting all of that criteria on the head? All that being said, the Nikon spot on program is about the best out there as far as BDC's go.

Chupa siad this well...
if your looking to shoot to 800 accurately getting you old bdc is not gonna cut it, best is to get an MOA reticle so you can run your own "custom" ballistics, or even a mil reticle with small increments, problem is your gonna pay for those great mil rets, and the finer MOA reticles are usually equipped in a thousand dollar + optics as well, I use the Vortex Razor with the ebr2b MRAD ret on my Norma and it works slick a long ways out... IMHO if your wanting to get to mid range, look at the vortex pst, I've ran one of those as well, and they are cheap for some of the options you can acquire, FFP, ZS, ill. ret. etc.

I have a BDC scope on my 30-06 and just don't like it. My kid has a Mil-dot scope on his 30-06 now for about 7 years and he seems to have it dialed in real good. I am thinking of changing to a mil-dot this summer, but I have a long list of stuff I want this year, so we will see what gets bought and what gets pushed till next year.

Another option, without getting to a mil dot style reticle is the calibrated turrets from Kenton Industries (http://kentonindustries.com) Basically you tell them what bullet at what velocity at what zero range and they will label turrets for your existing scope that coincide to particular yardages. Just spin to the desired range and go. Of course this assumes a quality scope to start with, having repeatable clicks. But for hunting applications it seems to offer a quick and simple option instead of having to keep a printed chart.

At $100 they aren't cheap, but it's less than a new scope.

Ive been wanting to try this system out but have not purchased a newer Leupold scope in awhile. Was looking at them hard last Fall but ended up going with a Meopta.
