We still aren't apples to apples here...LR shooters and hunters typically want 2 different things, with same end result. Personally, I feel my NXS scopes have great glass for what I have paid. Side by side with my VXIII...its tough to call whats better glass IMO. It is an easy choice for me to pick between the 2 for my needs. My VXIII is a 6.5-20 fine duplex with tall turrets. The NXS has better turrets for ME, and has killer reticles. I love the NPR-1 and MIL-R reticle for what I use them for. Leuppy...not condusive for what I use them for. Hard to hold wind or elevation with a duplex reticle. Those 2 differences alone add up to some serious price differences.
I have used both for hunting, and have zero complaints for either. But most hunters don't want/need a big heavy scope with turrets to dial. While I do not own a swaro, I have messed with them some and they have great glass too. You want a leupy that has the a decent reticle and turrets, and you will find the price climbing awfully fast.
For ME, I do not worry about the glass as much as I do reticle, turrets, tracking, and functionality. I want everything to work the way its supposed to. If I dial 6.2 mils, it dang sure better be 6.2 mils. If I miss a target because the scope didn't track right, its not worth a nickel to me, no matter how clear the glass is. When you get into the higher end scopes for LR shooting, you can get spend some serious coin for "glass". I use a bushnell XRS on my match rifle. Turrets are dead balls every time, FFP, 10 MIL revs, great reticle, and I love where everything is setup for my type of shooting. NOW, if I stick it on 20X and set it next to a VXIII, or even my NXS at 20X I would say it has less clear glass than the other 2. BUT, for all of the options it has vs cost it is a no Brainer. You cannot find another scope that has all of those options and is under $3K.
One thing I feel that keeps getting pushed off to the side here, we aren't really comparing glass on scopes that you are walking into a sporting goods store and picking up. Most guys do not spend $1000+ on hunting scopes. That is a generalized comment BTW. Of the 3 mentioned in initial post ( NXS Leuppy and SWARO) they all have outstanding glass. Heck of a lot better than what I have on most of my other guns. You will be happy with any of them. Pick what fits your needs and run it. If you cant see spending the $1300-$1800 on an NXS for your needs, then get a swaro or Leuppy in your price range and be happy. Ill stick with my NXS for what I do. They work. And heck if it boils down to it, I can use my NXS if I don't have a hammer handy.
