Pawn Shop Einstein!

I was in one of many pawn shops here in Portland and had a guy try and tell me that the AR10 upper he had for sale would work on my AR15 lower. He said they make an adapter for that! I walked out rp

It sometimes works in your favor I stopped at one of the local pawn shops looking for a deal and saw this bow in the corner wrapped in some kind of fur case. I asked the guy behind the counter if I could look at it, he said sure but its not a real bow just for decoration and he wanted $80 for it.
When I pulled it out the case it was a Tohka Osage self bow 55# at 27" the case was a full otter skin and it hade a fully beeded strap on it along with a extra flemish twist string, I couldn't get the $80 bucks out quick enough.
I shoot enough archery to have heard of the bowyer and saw the adds in primitive archer magazine. The bow new sold for over $400 not sure of the Otter skin but the beeded strap could go for $200

My last trip to our local pawn shop...they were selling S&W sigma series pistols for $460, Ruger SR9 pistols for $560 and .380 ammo for $30/box! The local gun shop less than a mile down the road was selling the same items for $299/$399/and $13/box!

It becomes negotiable after that.

Jack

At that rate the SKS that I sold to one will have a price tag of $1500.00 when it went on the shelf.

I believe they put a price of a little over $300.00 on it.

I guess my pawn/gun shop must be a real exception to the rule.
I've seen peeple ask about ordering guns and they will tell you if it can be had some place cheaper.
And on pawned items that are not picked up on time, they will hold them for at least another week before they put them out for sale.

Hey, here is an idea yall. Why dont we make Pawn Shops illegal or better yet let the government regulate them. This way, the pawn shop owner isn't allowed to make any money to feed his family or pay his employees or heck, keep the lights on. We can quit paying his high prices and just subsidize his and all his employees welfare checks for I dunno, the next two years. Awesome,I cant wait!

Bad Idea!

Suppressing the free market will never work in the long run.
The free market will determine prices and no government agency can even come close to being as good at it.

Pawn shops charging prices people are willing to pay will prosper.
Those charging prices people will not pay will die.

Capitalism does work well.

Again, I agree, that is a terrible idea. Let the Pawn shops price themselves out of business and get ridiculed on the internet. That will help the mom and pop gunshops with reasonable prices stay in business and feed there families and such.

C&K, we are speaking in general terms here. I know some like you, in fact my fav. gun store has a guy behind the counter
that is quite knowledgeable, but in most cases they are the opposite & I don't see that will change.
The reason I say that & again this is in general terms with some exceptions, but think about it. It take several dollars these days to have actual experience as opposed to just reading a little about guns. With today's cost of guns, ammo, optics, components, etc., you can soak up some cash quick. Just one nice rifle set up with good optics & also feeding it as a volume shooter can do could be a month's salary easy for an employee behind the counter.
In most cases the folks who can afford this have a higher paying job, business or profession.
So, in most cases I don't expect a whole lot of experience or knowledge behind the counter, but it happens sometimes.

Big difference.

Not as big as you seam to think.

Yes, there's a big difference. You seem to have no clue how the pawn business works.

A pawn is a loan secured by your item. You pay interest monthly on the loan amount, or pay the loan and interest back and get your item back. If you fail to meet your obligation, they own your item. Then they put it out for sale.
They don't want your item. They want your interest money every month.

We have a pawn shop close to where I live. The owners are good folks. They loan as much as they can on stuff. They send out letters every month to folks that have missed a payment, and they will work out arrangements for anybody that asks. If they end owning the stuff, they price it anywhere between what most of us would call reasonable and a little too much. But the price is always negotiable.

This. Gun shows here in Vegas are a joke. Obama pricing has not gone away. Vendors plan to make up their travel, set up, table fees and transactions fees with each sale. Plus the parking is $4 or $5 and the entrance fee is between $12 and $15. Any savings is gone before you walk in the door. That and you can forget about trying to sell anything to a vendor. People will either buy an AR from a vendor for $200-$300 more than it's worth but will try to buy from you for a nickel...

I BOUGHT A WIN.PRE 64 NEVER BEEN SHOT FOR 750. AND IT HAD A ZIESS DIVARI SCOPE ON IT,IT WAS OWNED BY A LAWYER THAT BOUGHT 20000.00 WORTH TO HELP THE OWNER OUT,SO YOU NEVER KNOW.THEY WERE BUDDIES
