Picking a .22 Hornet

I was going for a Ruger 77 with a 20 inch barrel, but with the rotary mag, I'm limited for ammo. What would be your choice based on carrying more than 1 round and accuracy. Money isn't a problem unless your talking thousands. Thanks.

CZ, Sako, Savage, .. aren't 7 rounds enough on that Ruger 77? I somehow think you are going to have a hard time finding something that has more capacity.. for the same amount of $$$

While I love my CZ in .221FB I am on the lookout for a Browning A-Bolt Micro in .22Hornet. Might have to get the CZ as I'm having trouble finding a Browning at the moment. I have checked out the Ruger and while I generally like their rifles the reviews on them are that accuracy can vary from gun to gun. Sako's while nice are a little out my price range. Their was a guy on www.coyotegods.com awhile back that had a CZ for sale. Good luck.

It's enough rounds, but I'm limited due to the max length of the round that the mag will accept.

I have owned both 77/22H sporter and target and loved both of them. I just sold my 77/22H target so I can get the cz527. It offers so much more in bullet selection. with the ruger it has a really short oacl due to the mag.For the money I dont think the cz can be beat. Yes the browning micro is a top Hornet but good luck finding one.

I have a Browning, Very nice and no problem setting the bullet out some. Still limited by the mag just not as much as the Ruger. Holds a few less rounds, only 3 round mag. If the CZ is like their RF they would be very nice also, I just dont like their safety.

I have not ran into problems with my 77/22 all weather and bullet lengths as of yet. In fact I could not be happier and I do own a CZ 17HMR and there is no comparison in the way the rifle feels in you hands or the way it is built. The Ruger wins hands down in my mind, but everyone is intitled to their opinion.

Got a CZ a while back. The rifle is sweet, but the way the mag is set up you are limited on overall round length. The stubby factory rounds work fine, but tried to load som Hornady 40gr V-Max and they were way too long for the mag. hade to do a little OKIE-RIGGIN' to the mag but now they work. Still havn't worked out all the kinks, but now I can at least shoot them. Just something to consider.

I have a CZ527 Hornet. It's a shooter for sure. It drops ground hogs in their shadow with the .35g V-Max, the 33g Speer TNT and the 34g Midway DogTown bullets. No muss, no fuss, not a lot of noise, it just drops them DRT. The single set trigger is wonderful shooting off sticks and in field positions in general. Its light enough to carry all day and practical enough that one doesn't feel bad it if gets sap on it from resting on a tree, or it has to be held against a tree trunk to steady it for a 150 yard off hand shot. It's a great hunting rifle.

It's wearing a Leupold VX-III 3.5-10x40mmAO in this picture. I have a Leupold VX-II 3-9x40mm on order for it which will be a better match for it.

The 35g V-Max and Speer TNT fit in the magazine the best. I shoot the DogTown and 40g V-Max losding singles using the single shot magazine filler from Calhoon (which works great by the way).

The magazine shell is long enough for any practical bullet in the rifle, but shortened inside by CZ using a filler for the Hornet. I'm not sure why CZ made the magazine as short as they did but I'm planning to get one of the modified CZ magazines from Calhoon that will add 0.1" to the cartridge length. That additional 0.1" will allow setting the bullets out to reduce the jump and will also allow loading .40g and .45g bullets with out encroaching so much on the powder space.

I like varmint hunting with a rifle that has a magazine. It makes it easy to quickly and easily clear and reload the rifle when moving from stand to stand, and saves fumbling with a loose rounds if one gets a chance at more than one ground hog. I could get a flush mounting 3 shot magazine for it but frankly the existing magazine isn't a problem. I always have a sling on it when I'm hunting.

Based on my experience with it including the joy of shooting it, the fun I've had reloading for it, and my success hunting with it, I recommend the CZ.

I have owned only one 22 hornet and it was a Ruger 77/22 and I didn't own it for very long. I could never get it to shoot better than a 2" group at 100 yards. I really liked the feel of the gun it just wouldn't shoot.

The cz 452 and the cz527 are not even close to the same rifle. For the ruger try and load any of the 40gr bt and you cant fit them in the mag. the cz mag can be worked over a little to fit them. I think the ruges are good but not close to the cz. I have owned both styles of ruger and have been happy with them other then the fact I could not use the longer 40bt. The cz strait out of the box is going to shoot. The ruger will require some work. Trigger job, bolt shimed, bedded and free floated to get the same results that you will get from the cz out of the box. For the money you can not beat the cz 527 Hornet.
