I have a CZ527 Hornet. It's a shooter for sure. It drops ground hogs in their shadow with the .35g V-Max, the 33g Speer TNT and the 34g Midway DogTown bullets. No muss, no fuss, not a lot of noise, it just drops them DRT. The single set trigger is wonderful shooting off sticks and in field positions in general. Its light enough to carry all day and practical enough that one doesn't feel bad it if gets sap on it from resting on a tree, or it has to be held against a tree trunk to steady it for a 150 yard off hand shot. It's a great hunting rifle.
It's wearing a Leupold VX-III 3.5-10x40mmAO in this picture. I have a Leupold VX-II 3-9x40mm on order for it which will be a better match for it.
The 35g V-Max and Speer TNT fit in the magazine the best. I shoot the DogTown and 40g V-Max losding singles using the single shot magazine filler from Calhoon (which works great by the way).
The magazine shell is long enough for any practical bullet in the rifle, but shortened inside by CZ using a filler for the Hornet. I'm not sure why CZ made the magazine as short as they did but I'm planning to get one of the modified CZ magazines from Calhoon that will add 0.1" to the cartridge length. That additional 0.1" will allow setting the bullets out to reduce the jump and will also allow loading .40g and .45g bullets with out encroaching so much on the powder space.
I like varmint hunting with a rifle that has a magazine. It makes it easy to quickly and easily clear and reload the rifle when moving from stand to stand, and saves fumbling with a loose rounds if one gets a chance at more than one ground hog. I could get a flush mounting 3 shot magazine for it but frankly the existing magazine isn't a problem. I always have a sling on it when I'm hunting.
Based on my experience with it including the joy of shooting it, the fun I've had reloading for it, and my success hunting with it, I recommend the CZ.
