Population implosion

No, not coyotes, something different for us to think about and comment on. I found this article interesting, thought our membership could and would make comments on their thoughts. The article talks about world population. Figures have been taken from the Population Referance Bureau.

According to those that know, for a population to reproduce itself, the fertility rate must equal 2.1 children per woman. The .1 allows for child mortality.

The results are an eye opener. Makes you think about everything from taxe base, to work force, military, less creativity, energy, to a country's very survival.

Here are some of the numbers reported.

Russia: 1.3 On average, for every three pregnancies, two abortions. They kill 2/3 of their children before they are born.

Mexico: Down from 4 to 3

Germany: 1.3

France: 1.9

India: Down from 4 to about 3

China: 1.8

African nations: 5-6 but Aids is dicimating their population.

U.S.A. : right at 2.1

Japan: 1.3

Italy: 1.3

Muslim nations: Booming. (Yemen) 7.2

Isn't this staggering? What has happened? Why is this happening. I've got my ideas, and I believe part of the problem is schrinking morals.

This isn't intended to open any cans of worms, just something to stimulate your thinking on our world situation. Demographers predict the world's population will level off around 9 billion, then it will start dropping.(Wall Street Journal). They say there may well be 500 million less people by 2075.

One last thought, Europe has had to import a very large labor force, mostly from the Middle East. The Muslims are a mighty voting force in France and Germany. Wonder why Europe is going the way they are? Hmmmmmm, let me guess.

Whatcha think PMers????????

You have to view that data with a little skepticism. Advanced nations like ours don't derive most of their growth from child birth, but from immigration. What's alarming is that we haven't had a population explosion so to speak. The gains, though drastically large are mainly from improvements in medicine and public health. Find something in your local library by Dr. Thomas Malthus about principles of population growth. It'll scare hell out of you, even if some of his principles are outdated. Best wishes.

I'm by now means an expert on the situation. But I don't see a problem with the population decending. If the population reaches nine million, as predicted, then the damage done to the earth will be emense. The human population has been steadily rising since recorded history, baring except the plague which put a small dent in the total population. Its my personal opinion that AIDS is the last hope for the human population. With other diseases being controled, and infant mortality in non-third world populations decending, something has to keep the human population under control. Something needs to take hold and keep us in check. Some might consider these radical views, but its just an opinion. To sum things up, humans are a cancer growing on the surface of the earth, and if something doen't stop the growth of this cancer the earth will be killed.

I'm much more worried about increasing populations than decreasing.

Here's a site where you can see what the world population was when you were born.http://www.ibiblio.org/lunarbin/worldpop

India will be the most populus country in the next 15 years. We currently sit at 6+billion people.

3 most populated countries
China-1.8 billion
India-1 billion
United States-290 million

Well Stu, I can see Tony's point, to a point. You don't see coyotes dumping toxic chemicals in their water supply, or burying radioactive waste in the ground do you? How long do you think mother earth can stand what we do to it? I would love to have seen what this place looked like before we got a hold of it. Of course I probably would have only got a glimpse before some T-rex had me for lunch.

Well Doc, I think I get your point. With a shrinking population, we have less people supporting more old people, there are less bright new minds to come up with new ideas. More people make a decision not to have kids, and i"m afraid in part it is due to people want more for themselves, and with kids, it's hard to just make it anymore. These younger adults with no kids are the ones with fancy cars and fancy houses, etc. I know a few of them myself and they will right out tell ya, they want the life that they are living and they can't live like that if they have kids. Well, ok, it's their choice.

I also remenber back in the 60's when an author (can't remember his name) wrote about the impending overpopulation of the world and the wiping out of natural resources within the next 30 years at the rate we are going. Ooops, another predictor of future events goes down as a nut....The sky is falling, the sky is falling.

What can the earth sustain? I don't know. Is mankind a cancer on the earth? I don't believe so, God made it, gave it to man to take care of and use. Ok some abuse it, maybe they are cancers in that sense of destroyers of normalcy.

One thing you mentioned though that does make me think about with distress, and that is the Muslim agenda of getting rid of all the infidels,( anyone but them). They are a weird lot, thats for sure. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Tony Perlinski,

I read your comment "To sum things up, humans are a cancer growing on the surface of the earth, and if something doesn't stop the growth of this cancer the earth will be killed."
My first thought was "what a moron this guy is!" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Then I looked at your user profile. 20 year old college student. That pretty well sums it up. Maybe you ought to quit listening to those wacko sheltered liberal college professors and start listening to people who live and succeed in the REAL WORLD! One day you will probably realize what screwballs these people you listen to really are.

Well we might have a few less Iraq's shortly. I know a few people (including myself) that would like to do some population control in Iraq. India is booming but might lose some it they go to war with China.
I have two kids. That works for me. I don't think I could give the attention and support I think is required to 7.2 kids. Just My opinion.

Sounds like a student parroting a liberal college professor while said student hasn't lived in the real world and had a chance to develop his own opinions. I'm guessing that you also believe in the fallacy of the ozone hole and global warming.

All of these doomsday theories are nothing more than theories that exist to get somebody's name printed in some scientific journal. None of them have been proven and become accepted scientific law. The ozone hole was the big thing in the 80's. Only to find out there is no hole because ozone is created by the lack of ozone. Destroy it and it comes right back.

Ever hear the phrase, "publish or perish?" It's an old phrase used by college and university professors. During a professor's (especially those in the sciences) tenure at a university they are expected to publish various items. Their publications raise eyebrows in various circles which brings the universities grant money for research and students, both of which equate to dollars. Many of these ramblings are nothing more than smoke being blown out of the author's posterior end. After all, even bad publicity is good publicity.

Global population seems to be the big thing now. Why is there such concern when the population will limit itself? You can't grow the world's food supply in a flowerpot. Since there's only enough food to go around those that can't get any or enough will be removed. Women in India can start squirting out as many kids as they like, but only so many will have enough food to survive. Of course various groups will step in and screw up the course of nature by making you fell pity for the starving children and sending them food. But these groups are also out to turn a profit for themselves since only 10% of the money they collect must go towards their starving children. The remaining 90 cents of every dollar collected will go towards the leases on the new fleet of Jaguars the executives of said organization are driving. Easiest solution to the overpopulation problem is to let the starving children starve. Is this mean? No. It's indifference. There's a word you'll never hear spoken or written in college. I'll say it again, indifference. This is a word that is to be never spoken in college--for it is the most taboo and evil of words in the college vernacular. The Berkley edition of Webster's College Dictionary even goes so far as to completely exclude the word. It undermines everything that university professors have brainwashed into tens of thousands young gullible minds. Basically, it means you really don't give a damn.

But to get back to the damage humans do to the earth: Even with pollution this and radioactive that, by the time all is said and done we are only hurting ourselves. If we contaminate all of our ground water we will either find alternate water sources, clean the contaminated water, or die. Finding alternate water sources is typically more expensive when factoring in new methods such as desalination and transportation. Death is an undesireable option. Cleaning is the result we are left with.

So to modify your statement to be correct it should read:
To sum things up, humans are a cancer growing on the surface of the earth, and if something doen't stop the growth of this cancer the human race will kill itself off.
Tell your college professors to pull their collective heads out of their collective asses. Don't worry about the earth. Long after we have killed ourselves off the earth will still be here. Deer will walk through the woods as the eagle cries overhead and coyotes will chase mice in the fields. It will continue on as it is now, just without us is all.

Let's not forget one of the recent whopper of late: Kwanza. Supporters claim it is a holiday, but it is nothing more than a day created by a liberal CSU professor who felt that all the other holidays were to "white" and that blacks needed a black-centric holiday.

Just as you can't have good without evil, sanity without lunacy, you can't have sensibility and reason without liberals.

Yellerdog, BroncoGlenn-- Interesting response. Both of you have apparently checked out a LOT of colleges and universities to make such statements about "liberalism." What "conversative" college did you two attend?
Interesting that you think Tony P has no concept of the real world. You also don't give him credit for being able to think for himself.

"Thems just a bunch of brainworshed morons there in college, ain't they? Wut the hail, we can keep sh!ittin' in our water, and I am gunna keep dumpin' my oil down my drain, f**k those long-hair college boys!"

Your approach to solving environmental issues only when they cause people to die is moronic.

"Oops, we's all dyin' from drinkin' that there green water, what should we do? Better call in some college boys, see what maybe theys can fix it."

And what the heck does Kwanza have to do with this discussion? Smells like a redneck red herring to me.

Bonehead, that means so much coming from you. You have done nothing but incite things since you joined here. Glad to see we could upset you. Probably someone with your 8th grade education does look up to these college kids and their wacky professors.

Ahhh... I wondered when "the bone" would show up and personally demonstrate additional, time-honored, liberal tactics. Those being ad hominem attacks and back-handed, indirect besmurdging of your opponent's intelligence, charecter, etc.

YD, I'm not anywhere close to being upset. The worst thing about an ignorant person is that they just don't know what they don't know. But any time you're ready for an intellectual battle, I'm right here. We'll see where a few times an 8th grade edumucation will get me.

Scatgunner, apparently YD thinks I'm not edumucated enough to understand what you said, so why don't you break it all down real slow for me, tell me exactly what all that means, and point out your evidence in my post. Just so's I can understand what my pea-brain spilt out.
(I thought ad hominem meant attacking someone's character rather than the topic being discussed. So good you had to say it twice?)

Bone, while I doubt your much of an intellectual at least you are a bit humorous in that post. I don't care how many times you went through 8th grade. It doesn't take much intellect to constantly attack people like you seem to do.

I did attack Tony P. I guess. I get tired of the worn out arguments of the left. Maybe he is a liberal college kid, maybe not. I do not make a habit of doing this though, as you do. I'm quite sure you haven't made any friends on here. I believe that I have.

Somebody didn't cut Latin class to go coyote hunting, that's for sure. Allow me to clarify a bit on the apparent redundancy (sp? - I aint a real gud speller.) you pointed out. While I suspect you knew what I meant already, I believe you tend to make direct ad hominem attacks, such as calling people idiots, rednecks, etc. In addition to this you also pull this shmarmie, indirect act where you couch your wording in terms that seem almost complimentary or cordial (sp? whodaheck knows fer sure?), but in reality are sarcastic, back-handed barbs.

But then, you knew this all along.

As far as pointing out where these occurred, see the above sentence.

YD, not bad-- Your commment about the 8th grade, pretty good. The rest of it is pretty lame, though.
I'm not sure where I have attacked anyone. I would say I have not even BEGUN to attack anyone.

But this is detracting from the original post. Do you have anything intelligent or knowledgeable to say about the original topic? At least BroncoG's post had some thought to it. All you've done so far is talk about them whacky college boys and theys crazzzzzy ideas about how to use fact, reasoning, and researched data to draw sound conclusions and effect positive changes.
OW, my head is swooning with that there liberal talk.
