I would not expect the madnes to end and be back to normal for atleast another 4 months. When everyone that wasnt ready finally gets their stock built up I think things will slow down. It would also help if people dont pay the high price regardless of how bad they want something. That will put a stop to the gougers buying and selling.
Anyone that reloads should have plenty of stock on hand anyway. Why wait until you are out to buy more?
I wont waste my time standing in line at Sportsmans, I am finding stuff at other locations. Sportsmans needs to put their stuff out at random times throughout the week instead of letting all the gougers knowing when it is coming. I stood in line once just to find out that the first 10 people are there every week 2 hours before they open to buy items to resell.
All the people believing the stories that the government is buying up everything doesnt help, or any of the other conspiracy stories floating around.
I will agree to disagree with you to a point. I believe manufactures were prepared for Obamas re-election...they weren't prepared for this. To deny the fact that Newtown didn't exponentially magnify this problem is ludacris. That event brought this issue to front stage. There are people that would never even blinked any eye tuning into legislative proceedings if there was not cause. I have bought two guns since December that I will reload for. Going down to the local shop and picking out 4 different powders to start working up loads is not feasible. Come October I will be hunting with one of those rifles. If that means I have to pay $30/lb powder now rather than wait and pay the $21/lb in September/October, I will do it. My time is far more valuable to me than to say I "saved" $36 over four months just so I was not participating in the gouging. I will buy what I need to buy as far as I believe the price is "fair".....after all, this is one time that the term will be very subjective.
PRECISELY! Do you think I am going to spend a beautiful spring day standing in line somewhere hoping they still have some when they get to me? All so I can boast about stubborn principles of refusing to pay the gouger prices? NOT HAPPENING- I ain't joining the union. And I ain't gonna spend my days whining about why the guy in front of my bought what he bought. It's a free country, or at least supposed to be- he can buy it for any legal reason he wants to. I don't care if he shoots it, resells it, or throws in the bottom of a well. Until the pretense of "there's no real shortage" goes away, this is the present reality. When supply cannot keep up with demand, there is a shortage and it doesn't matter what the reason is. In a capitalistic system, price moves up as demand moves up and supply moves downward. If supply could keep up with demand, the gouger would not have a market. But supply can't keep up, that again is called a shortage. Perhaps you don't realise it but the presence of gougers is a classic, clinical sign of a supply shortage in the market. Maybe the government should get involved and institute price controls, maybe mark the ammo so that they know who is actually shooting it versus scalping it. In a free market the price is set by the demand for an item and the army ain't buying mules anymore. Now those good socialists and commies, they'll tell you what you can buy, how to use it and not allow you to profit from it. I'll take the free market. A little leg work at gas prices today? What are you really saving? Does your time have any value? Or multiple orders to different places to pay multiple shipping charges that all affect the bottom line price? Set at the computer all day and hope you hit the email link in the 42-second window of availability? Do you realise that where you are on the email list and your email server makes a big difference on what time you receive your "product available" notice? I have 2 email accounts and they both receive the same notices, only one of them (the older one from the early days of Midway email notices) receives it up to a couple hours before the other one does.
If you think Obama's re-election did this, you're not very realistic or very naive or both. I don't know how old you are but if you're old enough to remember BushOne there was a smaller rush when he was pres for some items. All through November (election month) and up until mid-December (i.e. Newtown shootings) you could buy whatever you wanted to, it was in stock everywhere. I know because I bought a ton of "Christmas presents to self" from Midsouth on Dec 10 just by chance, not due to any crystal balls. Powder, primers, ammo-you name it, they had it in stock.
Listen, the market has changed. Maybe not long term, but at least for the short term. Accept it, deny it, curse it or profit from it, stand in line or walk away but that is the present reality. Me personally? Look at the price sticker on the sp primers above- how long do you think I have been stockpiling the stuff I use? I am good for a loooooooong time.
Some guys spend hours and hours down at the local gunshop moaning and groaning the state of the industry. Me? I'll be at the range, at the church, in the field, on the lake, or anywhere besides bickering over life. Boys, this life is a short ride. Don't waste a moment on the things that don't matter.
