predator quest scope sucks like no other

I've said it before and this isn't directed toward any one particular person, or for that matter not just the sport of predator hunting, it applies equally to all. Here it is, "money, greed, ego, and the eternal quest for fame and fortune ruins people and will taint a sport."

GC,

I do agree we see it everyday in pro sports and it happens in the hunting/fishing sports but thankfully not to everyone that's involved.
With the internet and all the info that is out there over a period time most folks can figure out who is genuine and who is all hype and in it for the money. Like Ted!

Last time I watched his show, hew sporting Howa Axiom in 204 with Nikko Sterling scopes and shooting V-max bullets...Guess I'm behind the times. Who's he sponsored by now?

How long do you think he can keep it up? Eventualy he will be left to respond for his actions and no one will take him seriously. Then were will he be?I sure hope he has thought out the long haul.

It's not like he's the only guy on TV pushing a subpar product. Nor close.

Nobody is forcing anyone to buy a PQ scope. I sure as heck wouldn't buy anything because a paid entity told me to.

Take a look around at what independent guides and professional hunters are using. By this, I mean guys who are not sponsored by any companies, who make a living off their own hard work and reputations. Guys who cannot afford equipment failures. How many Simmons scopes do you think you will see atop their rifles?

I used to watch a lot of hunting shows. Back when they were actually about hunting. They aren't any more. Thus, I watch very few of them, even though I have all the channels to do so. Some have become quite laughable, given you know enough about what's going on to get the joke.

Gun magazines are the same. So few writers out there worth their weight in paper these days. So many bad ones it borders on the unbelievable.........

Prezactly, Ken.

Without sponsorships, there would be NO TV hunting shows to watch at all.
Would you guys be happier if there was NO Outdoor Channel, Pursuit Channel, Sportsman's Channel, etc. to enjoy???

Would you same guys complain about Budweiser sponsoring an NFL game on TV, cause their beer sux?

Do you NOT watch NASCAR because those 43 cars' sponsors don't live up to your expectations???

C'mon, seriously.

I'd think you guys could look at TV hunting show sponsors for what they are.
They provide the bulk of funding for many of these shows, so OF COURSE they will get 'plugged' by the hosts.

THAT's THEIR JOB.

Do you think the hosts on these shows are just doing you a favor to entertain you by producing a show out of their own pocket?
That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, unless you are looking to go broke!

Use your head & consider these show sponsors for what they are. They are flippin' the bill for the shows we sometimes enjoy watching, so take it for what it's worth...

AS for Les Johnson, I had the pleasure of getting acquainted with him and his brother Jeff, not too long ago. I can tell you that their character is above reproach, and two nicer, more down to Earth, serious hunters you will never meet...

Fred,
It is the incessant over the top, in your face, outright Ho-pimpin', that I get sick of. Especially if the product is a piece of crap and everyone knows it, including the host, and they continue to press on as if that particular piece of gear is the end all, be all, solve all your troubles gear. Then the next year the stalwart host is sponsored by a new company and all the same drivel is now applied to this new fandango gear. What happened to last years stuff? Why the sudden switch? Was all that the host said about last years gear not true? Because now the host is saying the exact same thing about his brand new trinkets. As an example I watched Patrick Flannigan the shotgun shooting star go from blasting clays with his Winchester SX3 and claiming it as the ultimate blaster to now shooting for Mossberg and suddenly the M500 is THE ultimate shotgun in all of history! Really? BS, this stuff is disingenuous at best and probably much worse if integrity means anything to an individual. P.T. Barnum said it best and it is worth remembering, “There is a sucker born every minute.” It is ultimately up to the end consumer to do the research for himself and not immediately fall into a star struck stupor when one of these sponsored fella’s lies on the snake oil sales pitch.

Agreed 100%, Gary.

I feel its to be expected that a hunting TV show host would mention sponsor's product during the course of a show. Sometimes, it's not even mentioned, rather a close up camera shot is offered up right before a kill scene, or whatever. Either way, it's their job.

But it is entirely another situation when a host windbags up a product as being the greatest thing since the PB&J. If those types only knew how phony it made them look, they might tone it down some...

I guess my point was that I don't feel that Mr. Les Johnson comes across as the "over the top, in your face" type you mentioned. Like you, I don't enjoy watching the 'hard sell' type TV shows anyway, so I just change the channel...

You guys both make very valid points.

There are sooo many TV hosts/hunting personalities that pimp one product one year, and are using a whole different set up the next. Have seen it happen many times.

Myself, I could not push a product that I truly did not think was good. Many here share my views. However, we all know that this is not the case with everybody in the real world.

When Knight was sinking, T/C offered Jim Shockey more money, and he jumped ship. I've been told he still hunts with Knight when the cameras are off.

The T/C commercial that says Jim Shockey is the only man to accomplish the North American grand slam with a muzzleloader, and that he shoots a T/C, REALLY [beeep] me off. T/C is not lying to you, they are just misleading you. As we all know all of the animals were killed with a Knight muzzleloader and Leupold scope......

Fred, that's the same SOB that peddles those things at our state fair. About half way through the demo he says that exact thing. I always figured the sucker to be AC-DC. Not talking about the band.

Interesting commentary on commercialism in our country. What's that old saying, "Money is the root of all evil"? Anyway, I have a question about Simmons scopes. I recently traded for a Savage 22-250 that had a Simmons Whitetail Classic mounted on it. I figured that I would replace the scope once the funds were in place. I took the rifle to the range, and once I figured out where the parallax adjustment was, I was surprised at the clarity of the scope, even at 20x. I have read some comments here about Philippine made Simmons, and then Meade taking over and things going downhill. Just what is the history of Simmons scopes. If that scope will hold zero, I plan on keeping it on the rifle. I haven't put enough rounds through it yet to know that, but I did shoot a 5 shot string at a hundred yards that you could cover with a quarter with factory ammo. Good enough for me whether it says Simmons or Zeiss on the scope.

Hey kam582, I have 3 or maybe 4 of the Phillippine made WTC's. I don't think they can be beat for the money. I haven't used mine a whole lot yet. But, with the use I have given them, they have performed well.

I say use it. It may work well for you.
