Well, I have seen his videos and I must say they are pretty cool. He can make it look so easy but I would be surprised if thats not mostly private land that the locals have given him permission to hunt on.
Those calls he promotes with Primos are anything but first rate. I couldn't help but notice that the one called the Hot Dog looks like a plastic replica of the Dan Thompson Dessert Howler. Ive tried them both and I'll stay with Dan Thompson. That plastic thing just sounds sick, sorry Randy, no hurt feelings I hope.
Dont you all get me wrong I like Randy and he makes cool videos but he should just stick with the videos. Thats all I'm saying.

You dont think those calls are any good? Ive never tried em. But I do have the 'callin all coyotes 2' dvd , and its a pretty good film. alot of primos pushing tho.

i think the calls look cheep but they work well in my area as you can get a verry wide veriety of sounds out of them you compromise a little clarity but 50 yards out i cant tell the diference from those calls to anny other quality calls. the fact is they work and work well. mabe you should try them before you bash them. also i noticed you dont need to blow as hard on these calls saving your breath helps with shooting.

Augman, I wouldn't say anything of a call I haven't tried. I purchased the Hot Dog and field tested it. Infact, I field tested it with Jim Edgington who is in one of Randy's videos. Jim felt the same about Randy's Hot Dog as I did..."its a plastic imatation of a Dessert Howler with out the sound quality of the Dessert howler. We were wondering if there may be some copyright infringing going on but hey, thats just our opinion. If you like it, then by all means, keep blow'en on it. Let me state again, Randy is a good coyote caller and he could probably call up a coyote with a kazoo but I just don't care for his Hot Dog caller.

Fiah, I have tried several primos calls and most of them sound great. The only one I had trouble with was the Hot Dog. Maybe I just got a bad one but that thing sounded sad. I prefer my Dan Thompson dessert howler and Tweety. Tweety (which Randy promotes as well) works very well for close range.

I've not tried the larger howler, but I've got the little one, and it does the job just fine for me. Threw the green mouthpiece away some time ago, but with the white one it works quite well for distress and howls.

He did pattern the calls after his own favorite howler, the Dan Thompson howler. I imagine Dan Thompson may not be real happy about that. Then again, maybe he got the idea from someone else?

As far as his private land hunting, there isn't much else where he lives, is there? I think anyone given the choice would opt every time for public land hunting, or at least I would. Nothing like hunting on "your own" land.

My son lives in Kansas, and I entertained the idea of doing some calling up there with him one Xmas. His step dad had some land for us to use, and had a few people more than willing to let us hunt on their land as well, but the search for close by public land was frustrating. There was some land that game and fish leased from a private owner as well.

He works with what is available I think. To those in many sates, there is no alternative to private land hunting. What a shame. Nothing like going out into the woods and knowing that as long as you aren't breaking any laws, IT'S YOURS TO DO WITH WHAT YOU WANT. I love it. I fear the day it's gone, and it's coming.

I have both the Hot Dog and Little Dog. The Hot Dog is harder to call with especially trying to imitate the old dominate male coyote by blowing closer to horn. It does sound sick but I figure its just me because I'm new at all this. The Little Dog is easier for me to make decent sounds with and I agree that the green call is harder to blow also. I called up two yotes Sunday morning by using the Little Dog so I think its a good call. I'll have to keep working on the Hot Dog tho!

Look anyone who is in the call making business is trying to sell something, videos are the proof so to speak, most don't make a video just for video sake, they have other products to sell as well alot of the time. As far as any infringment on anyone, unless Dan thompson has a patent on his call anyone can copy the design and call it something different.Look at the sterling trap and the MB 650 almost identical, yet Glen Sterling can't sue because he has no patent to protect the trap design. Unfortunate but Glen checked into it and the cost was very high to get it patent and then to fight against any infringments and attorny cost!
Randy A hunts alot of private ground that receives little calling pressure, big differance than calling areas with squirrely coyotes be it on private or public ground. His videos fill a niche to new callers and adds a few things to those who have called for a few years, and most important good camera work, with plenty of killed coyotes and humor, I'll give him cudos for the way his videos turn out. A seasoned caller won't pick up much from these type of videos and we need more from people like Vern Howey, Vern Dorn type guys, more denning dog stuff, instead of the how to's on how to make a coyote howl or a rabbitt squeal. Primos does make some good calls, I like the regulator 10 makes good distress calls and good young coyote vocals.

i believe that randy hunts those private lands because people want him to. he has proven that he can call in coyotes and glenn zink can kill them for him. they want him to call in and kill predators. they have livestock they want to protect and possibly deer so he is probably the best known man in the neighborhood that can get that done. apparently from what i've read on this board he's not a bad salesman either. nearly every one has a tweety, has tried the red desert howler, or the austin howler. maybe not all because of those videos but i'd bet more than not. how many private land owners do you see inviting hunters in to get rid of the deer? coyotes are different than deer or quail or turkey. people see them as a nuisance so they invite people onto their land to kill them. you can't fault randy for doing what he does, i don't. have fun calling and killing coyotes and have a dork like will primos pay you to put your name on a call. plenty of calls stink but they still bring in the coyotes. they may sound sick to you but the coyotes like 'em. i don't personally have the hot dog, but i do have the truth: calling all coyotes, and i enjoy listening to the sick sounds of the hot dog call them in.

I watched his "Calling All Coyotes" I thought it was an excellent video. Especially for a new-guy caller, such as myself. The only thing I was looking for in a "Calling-Tape" was how to use the calls. He did a very fine job on walking a(new-guy) through that, IMO. Plus some pretty cool whacking footage(The frosting!)I might add.

i admit the hot dog is not the best howler it takes alot of pracice to master and is verry hard to use for beginners but i stick to it it does work well. i like the fact that is is hard to use becouse in nevada the dogs have heard that. every one is out there. putting out a new sound is a big advantage especially in areas that you can not go out to with out seeing another caller the pressure is hard here. also my call did not work out of the box i had to cut about 1/8 of an inch off of it to make it sound good. i also got rid of the horn, just in case you were wondering.

I have ALL of Randy's tapes, and I must admit that I enjoyed every one of them.. He is totally different from Byron South, but it is neither good or bad, just different and put together in a different way. Both their tapes are VERY entertaining and educating.

That said......Guys, please don't bash someone who is simply trying to make a living at their passion. We should ALL be so lucky as to make money at our hobbies! Randy is promoting a product that was ALREADY in the marketplace, and we, as educated humans, should be able to take the info that he provides, assess it against other info that we obtain, and make an EDUCATED decision about what we want to spend our money purchasing. I have NO ill feelings towards ANYONE who signs a sponsor endorsement with a company to promote a product, as long as it is ACCEPTABLE to the general public. It ain't like he is advertising edible camo undies or something??????? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Very well put hidestretcher. I too have all of his videos and enjoy watching them.

What I got from his videos is that its pretty simple to call critters, even with a high dollar camera setup on a tripod with two people side by side in the open. I know that camera has a zoom but man it sure looks like he calls them in close. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Several of his scenes are taken with the hot dog only and the timing is everything with a howler and the different sounds they can make. The hotdog is a mass produced call and all are the same. I doubt its a case of accidently buying one that didnt work being how they all come from the same mold. It took me several weeks of sounding like a duck before I got it. But now I love it!

It's one thing to bash, what ever that really means? it's another thing to joke around or give an opinion. I hope Randy makes millions. I was joking about his add he points his finger at everybody in and I also thought the picture was funny.

One thing bad about the internet, you can't see a persons face, all you see is the typed word. A joke with a smile almost everyone understands.

To be honest, I think Uncle Tom was just giving his opinion be it right or wrong. I noticed he said some good things about Primos calls and Randy Anderson, where does the bashing come in? If someone don't like something, they have every right to say so, right? Maybe I'm just old and cranky lol......Good Hunting To All

Well......what I read was the title of this post: "RANDY ANDERSON", and the followup talk about Primos calls and their inferiority. I have no problem with anyone's opinion on Primos, or any other call or product. But several of the posts referred to the lack of quality of Primos, or the difficulty of their use, and it was directed directly at Mr. Anderson's use and promotion of their products. Why else would the post be titled as such? Yes, everyone has the right and opportunity to voice their opinion, and I for one appreciate reading varying opinions about products, tactics, weapons, calls, or whatever. It is what keeps us interested and educated, and what keeps this forum valuable to us all. Maybe the post should have been titled "Primos Calls" ?????? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Or maybe I shouldn't have voiced MY opinion. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
