Rem. Wingmaster HD BB pattern and coyote pictures.

This afternoon I went out to sight in my 22-250 and to pattern some Remington Wingmaster HD 3" BB waterfowl loads.
I also took my 243 and my FOXPRO FX5. I counted the pellets in the Rem HD 3" BB 1-1/2 oz load and there was 73 pellets and I counted 98 pellets in the Federal Premium 3" BB 1-7/8 oz load. So the Federal 1-7/8 oz Premium load had 25 more pellets in it than the Rem HD 1-1/2 oz load. Shooting through a Carlson's Dead Coyote choke at 40 yards the Federal 1-7/8 oz load put 16 pellets on a paper plate and the Rem HD 1-1/2 oz load put 23 pellets on a paper plate. None of the Federal copper coated lead BB's penetrated through the 3/4" plywood the paper plate was taped to. About half of the Rem HD BB's went through the 3/4" plywood at 40 yards.

After shooting at paper I was ready to get in a few calls. In four stands I called in 5 coyotes but only got one shot off on the third stand. On the first stand I should of had a rifle not a shotgun and on the fourth stand I should of had a shotgun not a rifle.

Thanks for posting that Bob, looks like the HD stuff may do real well.. That pattern looks a little tighter than the Federal stuff.

Where did you get the ammo at?????????

Dogboy, I ordered it from my son's gun shop. Remington has a $15.00 cash back program per box for up to 10 boxes through January of 2008. I don't like the price of the Rem HD or the Hevi-Shot DC so a $1.50 less per shell sounded much better. The patterns and penetration on the Rem HD and the Hevi-Shot DC at 40 yards have convinced me it is better than lead, but is it worth the price? I have never had a problem in the past killing coyotes at 40 yards and less with copper coated lead BB's or lead T shot.

I would agree with you on the price issue. I like it because it now gives us a little more range in our scatterguns and deeper penetration at those ranges.

I've decided depending on terrain where I might shoot a little farther that 40 yards, to load my first round with DC, backed by 3" #4 buck.

If it's real close calling, I still use standard 4 buck.

That triple I took a couple weeks ago, I fired 4 rounds of DC when all I really needed was standard 4 buck to take them down. An expensive but fun encounter.

So I think I will pick up a box of the HD and see how it works in my shotguns. But having a few of those rounds in my pocket gives me the edge in some areas I go.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I know some of you kill a pile of coyotes each year. I don't. We call in so few with the shotgun that when I pull the trigger, I want them dead. So, I'll spit out the extra couple of bucks per shot to make sure.

Buker I have a small pile so far this year, I want them dead too!!!!!!!!!!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Buker and Dogboy, I'm with you, a few cents more on a shotgun shell makes all the sense in the world with all we spend on gas, equipment, cup of Starbucks and POM. (piece of mind)
