Remington 700 ADL Varmint

O.K. So I have recently been looking at the Ruger American Rifle line for an inexpensive(under 600 dollars) .223. I was at my local Dick's Sporting Goods, and saw that they have some Remington model 700 Adl Varmint rifle combos. These guns have a mossy oak brush stock, heavy bull barrel, cheap scope, and adjustable trigger. It's $550. I like it, but need to know if there is something that I should look out for in this rifle.
Thanks.

I've been looking at that exact rifle. Remington also has a $50 rebate on Varmint Model 700's right now.

Grant, can you (or anyone else) confirm if the receiver on the Varmint models are stamped "Model 700 Varmint" or not? My .308 is stamped "Model 700 AAC-SD" and I was wondering if they only did it with certain models.

Be aware the .223 are a 12 twist. As long as that works for you for what you want to do now and maybe down the road.

With the $50 rebate on the Varmint models they aren't bad buys.

They say Remington 700 like most other 700s.

My boy bought one last year about this time of year.
It turned in some impressive groups so far with my hand loads.

It seemed to shoot several of my hand loads well, but really liked
a 40 grain Nosler load.

He is happy with this rifle, it is a heavy barrel ADL varmint model.
Its stamped Remington Model 700 on the receiver.

It is a matte finish was a plastic stock.

+1 what hunt said!! Bought one from cabelas last year with the black stock, no scope,in 22-250. Great gun for the money. No problems at all. shoots very well, wouldnt hesitate at all to buy another. The factory stock is not bad at all, better than the american. Stamped model 700.

I have 2 of them one in 22-250 and one in 243. They come with a 26" heavy varmint contour barrel which was a little front heavy for me so I cut mine down to 18" with 11 degree target crown and I love them now. The rifle is a lot more balanced and still shoot lights out. I will definately buy another. I also replaced the triggers one with timney one with jewel but that's optional.

I called Cabela's today inquiring about special ordering the black ADL Varmint in .243 (or .308 and rebarrel to .243). Pretty good deal with the rebate.

Got one in 22-250 and put a timney trigger and a nikon 4-12x40. It is without a doubt my most accurate rifle. Sub 1/2 moa from mechanical rest.

I bought the ADL Varmint back in 2006 or so. Caliber is 308. Had the barrel cut to 20" with a recessed target crown. Scope is a Mueller APT Tactical. With my hand load of 168grSMK over 44grs of RL-15 I get sub 1/2 MOA. Last time out the best group was .307 center to center at 100yds.
