Just seen it on TV that Wed.10/20 on CNBC Biography at 9:00 PM (INDIANA TIME)they are gonna talk about the 700 and its history and problems. I didn't know the gun had a missfire problem? Just thought you might want to watch......Jeff

I just read a bunch of info on the 700 trigger. There has been a little 'history' with the trigger & probably plenty of other types as well. You have to wonder what is real & how much 'gold digging' is involved. There have been a few recalls on Remington triggers over the years. The model 600, from way back comes to mind.

I just saw it. Idk. Kinda makes you wonder. I haven't had any problems outta my 700 but like I said it kinda makes you wonder.

I had a old 700 .243 discharge on me when I was 18 years old. I kicked the safety off to open the bolt and it discharged into the air. That was long before I even knew the trigger was adjustable. I called Remington and they had me send it in as it was part of a recall for going off when you release the safety.

Way back in the 70's I saw a buddy's 7 Mag go off in camp. He had flipped the safety off to unload it, and swore he never touched the trigger. It was pointed at the ground behind his rear truck tire and blew gravel through the bottom of his fender.
The old ones had to be off safe to work the bolt. I had always heard that accidental discharges were why they changed that.
The story I heard was about a guy's 700 AD'ed on him and killed his son on the other side of a horse trailer. Remington lost the law suit, and the safeties were changed.
I'm sure that info was on the show, but I didn't see it.

I will get ahold of Remington as i have a 700 BDL Custom i won at a gun club event. I have shot it only on the range. it is a 270, but after this I won't tollerate this from any weapon. I had a pet rattlesnake once but i never turned my back on it.

like other posters said, the problem I'm familiar with was the old style, where you had to click off safe to open the bolt and unload. I heard of the recall. I have a buddy who's older '06 did it on him once.

In my opinion, ANY brand of rifle has this potential, not just Remington. The best safety is the one between your ears. ALWAYS point the gun in a safe direction, loaded OR unloaded.

Bownut and Jack couldn't have said it any better!!!!!!

The only safety I trust is me! Treat every weapon as if loaded and always make sure it's pointed in a safe direction unless your intention is to kill.

I agree with the muzzle safety comes before any other safety precautions but just thought this was interesting read on their website. Also the show is on tonight at I think 9pmEST. I don't work for any tv firm just thought this might spark some interest.

We can all agree that muzzle control is the best safety. however, who can say they have never, ever pointed a firearm in an unsafe direction (even for a split second), or that no one has ever stepped in front of the muzzle of their firearm?

Fair to say that many folks rely rather heavily on the "safety" on their firearm, even though we all know that mechanical devices are prone to failure.

There have been far too many reports of FSR (the acronym coined by Remington to describe Fire on Safety Release), many of which resulted in severe injury or death. Admittedly, unsafe firearms handling had to have been involved in combination with the mechanical malfunction, or no one would have been injured.

I purchased a new 40XC (A target rifle built by Rem. custom shop on the 700 action) in the '80's and the very first round down the tube was a FRS! Trigger had not been adjusted and my finger was no where near the trigger, so it can happen.

Watch yer muzzle!

Remington is offering a rebutle on their website. I looks like this is just some liberal propaganda to smeer a repitable firearm. IMO CNBC is about as liberal as it gets.

I wasn't trying to mar the reputation of remington rather than just inform people that it was on tonight. I really hope it is more informative than finger pointing. Guess I'll find out now.

Wait a minute....... you guys are trying to tell me I actually have to watch what I'm doing with a firearm even though it has a safety?????

Sorry but I have to call BS on this one!

My wife had one of the 700's go off when she put it fire.

We heard about the safty problem later on and how many other people have had the same problem.

There are alot of people that have had the same thing happen.

My problem is that they don't fix there problem, they just ignore it.

A good company would have taken care of this problem long before CNBC could have run there program on the rifle.

I haven't heard of other rifle companies having this problem.
If Remington didn't want CNBC or anyone to run this program they should have taken care of the issue long ago.
