Remington 700 SPS tactical.....Like it? Dislike it?

I was wondering if anybody here has shot the SPS tactical in .308..It looks like a very solid gun but have not shot one personally or even seen one for that matter. I have read that it is a good rifle but really would like to hear some personal experiences with the gun before pulling the trigger on getting one....no pun intended! haha

My brother bought one to use for elk hunting, He loves his, very very accurate, a bit heavy, but not unbearable and I personally like the way it handles and shoots.

I think its a super nice gun, and usually fairly priced

I have a 700 SPS Tactical in .223 with an HS stock and if the .308 shoots anywhere close to it, you won't be disappointed...

With the stock swap, it is a little heavier, but I like the weight for added stability...

In fact, if I had any real use for a .308, that would be the rifle I'd be buying next..
 
I have it in 223 also, shoots excelent with blackhills, never fired anything else out of it. But holds well under MOA. One of my old team mates shoots EVERYTHING with his in 308. BUT, BUT back about 16-18 years ago Remington got chiny on the varminter/tactical rifle production, screwy crowns, parkerization going into the tube, they were poop- I was frustrated with one and scraped it for parts, all the magizines ran blurbs about unhappy shooters. I heard many common complaints BACK THEN- not now. They have a good quality line, but some folks may disagree. jhg

ButchTango, You need to take a short drive up to the St Louis Area and go out to the Benchrest Club with me...It's a fantastic facility...several 50-600yd ranges, plus pistol, shotgun, and archery...

I shoot under 1/2 @ 100yds with my .308 Hornady match box ammo. best was .375
all the cheap stuff win,Rem and such shoots 2" in my sps 308. but the barrel isnt really broke in yet I have maybe 50 rounds thru it.

I have thought about getting rid of this rifle since it doesnt get used. but the [beeep] thing shoots so good with that match ammo I keep holding on to it
 
Well I am glad to hear that you guys are having good experiences with this rifle! I am ready to go ahead and get this gun!! I called my dealer and said they were discontinued!!! Is that true? They said they only have 6 left in their warehouse!!!!
 
Ohh and about coming up to STL to shoot with ya that sounds like a pretty good time. I have an AR-10 that I would really like to try out on that 600 yard range!!

nah I have one, just wondering if you ended up with one. what are they selling for now,since there being discontinued? I picked mine up for $550
 
Well I went and bit the bullet on this!! I just ordered one of the 6 left...just had to make sure I got one of them before they ran out!! Man I'm impulsive some times!!

I bought one and it had the Hogue stock on it. That stock was HORRIBLE! It had way too much flex for the .308 and would not hold any groupings. I put a B&C stock on it and now it shoots 180 gr at 100 yds with a .5 inch group. I like the guns trigger, crisp.
