How many people own cars but don't change their oil?

I can change my oil and do other automobile repairs. But I HATE working on a car. I can go to my local mechanic get my oil changed, fluids checked and tires rotated for about $8 more than I would have to spend on oil & filter, be back home in 30-45 min. I don't need to get greasy or have to haul off my old oil. Maybe I should reconsider owning a car.

Because I don't know how or want to take out my trigger housing and fix it, I should reevaluate my ownership?? How many people own cars but don't change their oil? Should they reevaluate ownership as well? I have two on the recall list, mine are getting shipped back while I reevaluate if I qualify to own them. Thanks for the very helpful post.

BTW Catshooter,
I appreciate you posting the procedures for those who choose to repair themselves. That was very helpful.

It should be part the basic maintenance of your rifle... It takes exactly 3 tools to remove a barreled action from the stock and pull a trigger, I suggest doing it it's worth a look, very simple and something worth learning.

I would like to personally apologize to all Model 700 owners for this recall, as it is completely my fault. Every time I buy a new firearm it gets recalled for something. I started out with a TC Venture, recalled twice. Then a Springfield XDS, recalled and gone for 4 months. And now I've passed my curse to the venerable Model 700. I just bought a new 22-250 about 2 months ago. Sorry guys.

Can't believe this thing has made two pages without Ornery stopping by to take a shot at Remmy.
He must not be feeling well.

Pears sent.

I never said that one should not own anything. I said one should reconsider their ownership. IE, be more proactive in your firearm maintenance, how things work on them and how they can repair, evaluate and maintain when needed. It comes to pride of ownership. That's what I was eluding to, and it have explained this 2x now in this thread.

Pretty innocent statement in my book dude. Not sure why anyone would be taking offense to it, unless they're reading more into it than is really there.

Uhmmm... I'm guessing that if you had to box your car up, and mail it off for 4 months, to get the oil changed, more folks would change their own oil. And, having spent 4 years changing oil in other people's cars, yes... there are just a whole bunch of folks on the road that should NOT own a car.

Or, old fat guys, I take mine to the local speedy lube because I can't squeeze my carcass under my car anymore, even on ramps. In fact I have a tough time clearing suspension on my jeep on a creeper. Doesn't have much to do with belly either, I can't get my chest under the damm thing without exhaling deeply, then when I inhale I'm stuck. And, there are just a whole lot of places on today's "cars" that my big paws don't fit, the jeep wit the little 2.5L is sweet in that respect!!

So given your mechanical ability, would you set aside your HATE for working on a car and change your own oil, if you had to box your car up and ship it off for four months to get your oil changed, or would you do it yourself?

Yep...

This is not good. I have been told that the turn around for getting your gun back is 6 to 8 weeks. I just bought my 700 VTR on 04-16-14 brand new and have not even fired it yet. I just got the gun in a new B/C stock and lapped my rings and mounted the scope now I hear this. When I spoke to REM they stated if I fix the trigger myself it will not have their marking on the trigger and could be liability issues if I resell it. That is not good I am ready to take this rem back to my dealer and never buy another one no matter what I think of them because of Remington response and attitude when I called. I own a lot of guns and have never been treated like this from a manufacture when the problem IS THEIRS!!!!!!!!

That is not bad treatment - it is the problem of a litigation based society. There is a limit to how many guns a day they can handle.

They did not plan for this to happen.

Of course, you COULD get a Savage

Remington is fixing their problem but their timeframe is different than yours. I would just buy a better trigger and install it if I was my rifle, if you are that worried about it I might have a old story trigger here I could sell you.

AND THEY ARE WILLING TO FIX IT FOR YOU!

There's gotta be a name for this condition.

Its the "I bought this rifle, now it's recalled and they can't have it back to me in 48 hours and I'm special... the only one that's important and I'm never buying one of these again cause they dissed me when I had an attitude like this on the phone with them" syndrome.

Those rotten sonsa beeotchs.

My son bought a 700 varmint in 308. I shot it and didn't think much of the X Mark trigger so I bought him a Timney replacement for Xmas. I assume with the replacement trigger the gun is good to go?

At what point should it be acceptable that a company like Remington continues to have recall after recall? Just look in the NRA magazine American Rifleman and see how many times they have some recall alert. As far as I am concerned there should not even be a discussion on the ability of someone to maintain a trigger, it should be why a company that has made rifles for as long as Remington can't make a trigger that you have to jack with. I guess if we keep buying em they will keep making em.

Yup good to go.

Just put the xmark where it belongs.... In the trash can.

10-4 its 10-76 trashcan. I was pretty disappointed with the xmark after reading several reviews that indicated it was a great improvement. Maybe some were good.... not the one my son bought last spring. I own 4 different 700s all have replacement triggers. Sad you have to up grade a new rifle to make it better.

Sad you have to upgrade to make to make rifle better, than never change anything. No better tires on your truck, no better hooks on fishing lures take the salt and pepper off the table, just saying do not take freedom of decision lightly it is being stolen away every day.

Recalls happen no matter what company it is, recall after recall? I would like to know the list.
