I am also an electrical engineer besides a mechanical engineer ....

Hmmm... So you double majored? Where?

No, I did not double major. I was an electronics Tech in the Navy during the Viet Nam era. I used my GI bill to get my EE degree in Spokane, and then went to night school 5 years later, for 2 1/2 years, to get the mechanical degree. Johnson Matthey Electronic Materials paid for most of my classes since they were job related to the automation work I did for them. A good working knowledge of both engineering fields is very helpful when you are designing automated production lines. It also pays better when you have both sheepskins.

You sound a little sceptical, but I don't recall doubting your credentials.

The 742 I had years ago never jammed, but I had a heck of a time sighting it in one time until I realized the barrel retaining nut had worked loose. The barrel was rattling around in the receiver. I tightened the nut and sighted it in but sold it the next year. I would love to have a 760 or a model 8-81, but I'd pass on a 740-742 unless the money was right. I understand the 7400s are not known to have AS MANY problems.

I bought a 742 Carbine in 30-06 back in the early '80's. Never had any jams. This rifle shot under 1 inch with the right hand loads but I sold it to my hunting buddy. I'm a bolt lover. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

Sorry to say, but the rifle can't be 2 years old. I bought a 750 Woodmaster in 2006 which was the replacement for the 7400. They were out in late 2005.

Your right about the age of the rifle. I found out it was bought in late 2003 but has been in storge for the last four years, so the owner only used it a couple years. Still no good quality rifle wears out in that amount of time so that is no excuse.

TRUE!

7400's suck. Period. I have personal experience with 3 of them that guys brought over to see if I could fix them. All 3 guns had the same problem. The extractors went. Once this happens, the cost of the repair is just not worth it.....

Gees...., SoDak...

You have all this technical expertise in your hip pocket and you're asking a bunch of dummies like us how to fix the rifle....? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
