Remington 7615 vs Mini 14

Im looking for a short ranch rifle/close cover calling/ more than one coyote situation for coyotes. I've narrowed it down to these two rifles the remington 7615 or the mini 14 ranch rifle both in 223. Accuracy isn't a big problem cause shots will mostly be below 150 yards. Anybody support one or the other

Dont get me wrong both make fine weapons. The question is are you better able to hit an animal sitting or on the run with a pump that you have to cycle the action yourself or a semi that does it by itself. Mu persional opinion is the mini 14. but you need to change the sites to better peep sites or go all out and get red dot scope mounted on it. The mini 14 has a gas block that makes the action not jam as much but the gun also has moving parts in the action that could break. the Rem is has a very simple action with less that could break or jam. the kick is very minimal on both guns because they take the same round (223). just my opinion.

Have you thought about a Keltec SU-16 rifle? Its a collapsible rifle that is chambered in .223. People say it has better accuracy then the mini.
Heres a link.

Heres a forum with more information.

It also accepts AR mags!

I think both are very overpriced. I think for a few bucks more you can get an Olympic K16 and would be satisfied for a lifetime.

I am on my 4th Mini-14. None of them have been very accurate stock. Spend a little more and get a quality bolt action rifle.

I don't know what you want to spend, but from what I can see here most of the folks use either something built on the AR platform or a bolt gun. Most of the AR platforms are very accurate and of course so are the bolt guns.

I've got several friends with the mini-14's and not of them are really accurate guns, though for coyotes out to a hundred yards there minute of coyote guns.

As far as the Remington, well some shoot good some don't you kinda pays your money and takes your chances and I'm a Remington fan.

Good luck in your hunt for that perfect quick rifle.

Do a search of "7600" and another for "Mini 14" and you should find your answer pretty quick. The Remington 7600 is so damned good they should have dropped their jam-o-matic semiauto a long time ago and saved the Remington name a lot of trouble. The Remington pump is reliable and trouble free, has a long life span, handles extremely well, is easily glass sight equipped, the trigger can be tuned to a nice crisp 3 pound pull, and the accuracy will be from very good to absolutely stunning. NYPD used 760's as counter sniper rifles to augment and support their M700P .308 bolt gun.

Regarding the Mini-14, I think Mr. T of the A Team said it best, "I pity the fool...!" Seriously, hands down the 7600 series of rifles would be my choice between these two with zero regrets and I'd never second guess or look back.

His avatar info says Alberta, Canada......so the Olympic or any AR-15 is not an option...I believe. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Missed that...How about a Stevens 200 then? Save half your money for optics...

I've had the mini and wouldn't go back. I vote for the Remington when given the two choices.

For the price of the mini how about an encore in 223? You could add another barrel down the road. JMO Good luck!

The key to the Mini-14 is how you look at it. It is not a 1 MOA bolt action rifle. It is a fast handling carbine that (with a good red dot) will fill the role of a shotgun much better than a shotgun does. You can snap shoot very fast and you are not limited to 40 yards. I hate shotguns for coyote hunting because they are too limiting. Sometimes the coyote shows up at 50-75 yards and you are out of luck.

It is a good 0-100 yard brush gun.

I say neither. The Mini has been plagued with accuracy and often reliability issues.

Spend a LOT less than either, get accuracy the mini could only dream about and get a Stevens 223. About $300 or less in most places. Accurate, reliable and proven. You can easily shorten the barrel if need be.

The Rem semi auto is still alive, but not in 223. The new 750 starts at 243 and goes up.

That Stevens will take much more abuse than any semi auto or pump.

I'll admit the Mini-14 is not the most accurate gun on the planet. But, you have to be joking about the reliability. My Mini-14s (I own 4) have been more reliable than my AR15s, Garands, SKSs, and even my AKs.

Reliable is what they do well.

I love the 7600 and agree - fast, accurate, reliable, but I was told many times the trigger could not be lightened safely. Please let me know how/where you had it done. I keep my eyes open for one in 223.

Thanks

I'd like the 7615 better with a regular, remington magazine.
but I think that is one kick butt calling rifle.
as already stated some Remington Pumps, shoot like crazy, some just good.
