Remington 788's

Anyone ever trick one out? Had one years ago that was rebarreled with a SS heavy barrel in 6mm. Other than that one, never seen one "customized". If you have one show and tell please. ( late night curiosity)

I had one in 223. I made a big mistake and sold it. It was stock except for being bedded. There was nothing I could have done to make it better. It was one of the tightest shooting rifles I had ever owned.

Here's one in 17 Remington.

Mines at the gunsmiths now getting a trigger job and have decided on a Boyd's T-hole stock in Forest camo that I'm going to order tomorrow.

Thanks. It was fun to do. The stock is the original one with tons of wood removed. I pillar bedded it and did a trigger job on it. Then I changed the trigger out for a Timney and highly recommend it. It shoots very accurately, but doesn't like very stiff loads at all. It's still kind of heavy. If I was to do it over I would use a 22" barrel instead of the 20" and contour it much smaller.

CUSTOM BUILT Remington 788 Urban Tactical Sniper Rifle, Cal .308 Win, Muzzle Brake, Timney 2.5lb Trigger, Custom Tactical Stock with Adjustable LOP and 2.5" wide Forearm, Flush Mounted Sling Swivels, Bedded Action and Free Floated Barrel. Explore 4X16-50 LR Scope on Leupold Base and Rings. All Metal is DuraCoated in Black Oxide and the Stock is DuraCoated in Tactical Black with CAFR Gray Spyderweb and Overcoated with DuraVelvet Top Coating for an overmolded rubber texture.

I recently pulled the Leupold bases and went with an EGW Pic rail. Changed the scope, as well, to a HiLux Leatherwood 2.5x10.

This one (.243)is just like I bought it. It is has a 17 inch barrel. I think someone had refinished the stock at some point before I got it. I would like to add some swivel studs for a sling.

I like both your rifles but really like the stock on this one. What kind is it? Looking a bit closer, is it the factory stock DuraCoated?

I just bought a 788 in .243 from a buddy. He bought it new way back and says he's probably shot 5 boxes through it. It has a little blueing wear at the muzzle but a real clean bore. Original paperwork said he paid $99 new. I gave him $200. What do ya'll think? I haven't shot it yet but he swears it shoots where you point it and if I'm not happy just bring it back and get my money. I've bought a few from him in the past and always been satisfied. He was a heck of a hunter back in his day but has asbestos lung now and can't hold out to hunt much. I sure miss the days when we'd hunt from daylight to dark

If you find you don't want it shoot me a PM, Id probably take it off your hands for what you have into it.

I gave $270 out the door for mine at a pawn/gun shop a few years ago. I have never seen another that cheap. Would love to have one in .17 Rem or 22-250 (never seen either in person). I have seen them in .308 and 6mm.

I just bought a 788 in 222 from gunbroker. I haven't had a chance to reload for it yet but when I took it out to make sure it functioned the old girl made one ragged hole at 100 yards with over the counter remington 50 grainers. I'm not real sure I could bring myself to change much at this point. I had another years ago in 308 and it was a shooter also. I'm thinking a 6mm may be my next treasure hunt to go on in the 788 world.
