Good morning, ninehorses.
Don't know about that, but mine came w/standard 700 trigger (by all outward appearances, complete w/safety). Mine was a repeater but you had to remove from stock to make trigger adjustments???
I mentioned briefly that I got a deal on the rifle; it was one of 6 which a large hardware store had in stock to supply a niche market of target shooters who competed in live goat shoots in Mexico when the Peso devaluation destroying that market.
Our club conducted monthly NRA XTC competitions. A group of us cut a deal and bought all 6 @ $650 ea. IIRC. I can vouch for the fact that all 6 of these rifles had safeties
, but mine was the only one that demonstrated "FORS" characteristics.
This was in the '80s., perhaps the custom shop may have changed triggers in earlier or later models; or for that matter, due to the obvious volume of sales, this particular store may have cut a deal w/Remington for a "special run"? However, since all 6 rifles had same trigger, I'm reasonably confident that they had factory installed triggers.
ETA: I also had a 40XR (.22RF built on a 700 action) at that time, identical in all aspects to my 40XC except that I never experienced a "FORS" with it. It was also necessary to remove action from stock to make trigger adjustments on the XR.
