Review of "Hunting the Night Shift"

Welcome westtexjeepster! Glad you signed up. I didn't know who you were at first, but when I read "Russ" I knew it was either a family member or close friend. This is a great place to learn about predator hunting and there are some great guys here even if they do seem ornery at times. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif The search function is invaluable even with all of its annoying aspects. If you can't find it there, don't be afraid to ask on here.

Regardless, kick up your feet and stay awhile! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Take care and God Bless,

Rusty

Seems like every time I watch my copy I see some little something that I missed before..like that wet spot in Watson's pants from where that bobcat jumped up at him!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I'm sure that was just coffee from the bumpy ride in back though...right? Coffee, yeah...THAT's the ticket! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Now bring on number 2!!

Umm, if number 1 brought us a wet spot, are we sure we want to see "number 2"?

Just kidding. I am still a newbie of course and I liked the video. Randy did mention during his piece that "this is how we do it down here in West Texas", so I didn't expect it to exactly match what I was trying to do in my situation. Showing how the light shields the shooter was very helpful to me as was listening to the calls.

That video does/teaches nothing to us northeastern hunters
I would never hunt in a chair in the back of a pickup.
We need a good video for us eastern hunters.Anyone know of any?

You mean to tell me that the way you call or run the light or deal with landowners or identify your predator or...is different because you aren't sitting in a chair? You guys must do strange stuff out in PA????

I have not seen the video, so I of course don't have an opinion. But, what is legal in one state is out of the question as in Pa. I have tried to stay on the good side of the law while hunting BUT, let me get my hands on a fully loaded Cobra helicopter with the heat sensors, lock on,etc -- look out coyote I'm coming for you!!! (If I can just break this no kill curse.)

Like Randy Buker said, just because you don't hunt from a truck and chair don't mean you can't learn something from him and Randy Watson. Those guys know what they are doing. That is a great video. One day I'm going to go down there to Midland and hunt. Gotta save my pennies. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I agree, hunting or just observing with one of these guys (or you Pruson, because you have been so welcoming and helpful) is on my list of things I would love to do, but just can't because of normal life stuff.

I can understand being frustrated by a video, I didn't like the first few (the only ones available at the local sporting goods stores) because it was all coyote and I had a fox problem. They were more about the cool "kill shots" than education. I guess watching those kills are fun for more experienced hunters. I really don't get much from watching someone else get the kill, the crazy distances, etc. but not overall helpful to me. I want to learn.

That being said, I got some nice basics from this video that were very helpful.

Great video. I have hunted in Texas with this method and its a blast. Great info and Buker I believe was shooting a 17 So I even liked it better then (lol).
