Review of "Hunting the Night Shift"

I for one enjoyed Hunting the Night Shift immensely. It is a well made video and had some good nuggets of info in it. For the most part hunting in general is as hard as you make it. All videos have flaws because they are limited to length and the maker never knows exactly who their audience will be. I can watch a video on mute and still pick up things. What I try to do is look at the set- up and visualize where I think the coyote, fox or whatever will show. For the most part I enjoy watching them to see how other ppl's techniques vary from mine and if there is something I had not thought of to throw into my own game plan. I don't watch a video and then go out and mimic exactly what I saw, because it may not apply even 50% of the time to the places I hunt. Videos are 99% entertainment for me and 1% informational.
I agree 100% with R. Buker on Randy Anderson's bad howling. To me though, it does go to show that you don't have to sound authentic to fool a coyote. Not all of us sound exactly like a dying rabbit, a mouse or a woodpecker but those sounds still call fox in.

The only problem with the video is the lite caliber .17 missing and the main problem is the fact I wasn't there, IN it! Though as I recall, I am leaving in a few days to do it....man am I pumped? Just listen to the best yote hunter in the country, thats Randy Watson and you cant go wrong. Did I say I am pumped about my Texas trip with randy?

OK fellas, POOF! he's gone. For the record, that was not Randy Anderson. Again, I appologize for the troll and the confusion.
Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

I really regret buying that video, it has cost me nearly $3000.00 in the last two years in trips to Texas to hunt. I watched it and said "You mean that's legal? I gotta do that!" The worst part about it is R.Buker's accent but I guess he can't help it.

But, don't you mean, "Ya'll cain't hep it?"

Thanks guys for the kind words.

It sounds like there were some not so kind words offered up too. Kinda wish I had a chance to see them... Oh well...

Dang..I missed all the fun! I love a TROLL HUNT! Especially a NIGHT troll hunt...

Oh well, for my part I can definitely say that I LOVED Randy and Randy's video!! Two guys with great names too! Did I mention my name is Randy also? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Seems like every time I watch my copy I see some little something that I missed before..like that wet spot in Watson's pants from where that bobcat jumped up at him!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I'm sure that was just coffee from the bumpy ride in back though...right? Coffee, yeah...THAT's the ticket! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Now bring on number 2!!

If you want to learn anything this is not much of a show if you like driving down the road and spotlighting and shoot what ever you see then this one is for you.

Hmmmm.....never done that before, maybe I should try it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

While we do spot eyes while driving in between stands on occassion, it is VERY rare to see something while driving and shooting at it without having to call it in. (it hasn't happened to me a single time this season and I've made a ton of stands) 95% of our stands are made by stopping and then calling with the engine off and without ever even seeing a set of eyes prior to the firt series of calls being made. True, we spot some cats that look at the light while we are driving, but you still have to call them in with lip squeaks, etc. unless you are VERY lucky. (again, it hasn't happened to me a single time this year.....or last year either)

I just wanted to help give you a clearer picture of how we go about hunting at night and let everyone else know that we don't go about it quite the way you described.

Take care and God Bless,

Rusty

Russ,

Maybe you should take DW out on a complimentary Texas predator hunt and show him the ropes. You know as well as I do that this sport is more addicting than deercaine to a cracked out doe and that he'd be back next year payin you to take him out.
