Dont know much about rugers I am pretty much a savage guy.But have been looking for a long range target gun for awhile now and kinda on abudget.Came across a used one of these today in a local gun shop and it looked pretty nice in really great shape in a 243. price was $625.Like I said dont really know anything about these and there prices new so what do you all think about this gun and caliber for some longer range shooting say out to around 6 to 700 yds.And what do you think about the price is it to high.

I had 2 of them in 22 Hornet, besides being the best looking rifle I have seen, mine were great guns. 625.00 seems a bit high in my opinion. Check gunbroker nd see what they are going for.

i have a 77 vt in 243 - i set it up for 1000 yard f-class shooting for my daughter. she doesn't like it (she's 10 - so what does she know, anyway??) so it pulls long range target work for me, now.

i like the trigger and stock on it. i think the barrel is too light of a contour for a true varminter or target rifle, but it is serviceable. it doesn't hold a candle, accuracy wise, to my other 1000 yard guns, but it is accurate enough to play at 1000 and have a little fun. i hate the ruger scope mount system, and really wish they would have done something else for their vt-series (mine has a burris 'adapter' and burris weaver-style rings). i like 26" barrel, and the 9-twist has no problems stabilizing 105 grain hornady a-max bullets.

overall, i think it is a solid rifle that has some user-specific quirks.

i also think $625 is at least $100 over priced for a used 243 varminter. the 243 is a pretty hot cartridge, the ruger vt is heavy enough to shoot the 243 comfortably quite a bit. all that means that you may be buying a rifle that only has half its barrel life left.

good luck!

I bought one n 243 used for $550 w scope , I have one in Swift and 22-250 they all shoot good , I cut the 243 and Swift barrel down to 22in and couldnt b happier w em.

I got my Ruger M77 Mark II in .270 used for $450. Great gun for sure. I've never had a problem with it. I agree $650 is a tad high. Hope they come down a little bit for ya. I know it's a great gun but man they sure are proud of that one.

Well i am back from the gun shop with my new toy.Got them to come down on the price.Got the rifle with the rings and trigger job and the rings lapped for $580.00 out the door.Found out who had the gun before and was it was a guy who works with my brother and gave him a call. And he said that he got rid of it because he got one in a220 swift and didnt need them both,He also said the round count was at about 75 to 95 rounds and it was a good shooter. So I am in the market now for some glass for this thing and we will see what happen. Thanks for all the info guys

I have been looking around and trying to find a good scope for this gun and like I said before am kind of on a budget for this project so If any one has got any suggestions on a good scope for some longer range shooting, would like to have one with turrets and at least 12 power or higer and between 3 to 4 hundred dollars I am all ears thanks

Any one have any thoughts on the nikon buckmaster 6x18x40 or the bushnell 3200 elite 5x15x40

With that price range I would try to pick up a Bushnell Elite 3200 Taticle. That is if you really need the turrets with it. It would be on the top end of your price range.

I am a big burris fan, but not a fan of their turrets.

Ive got on in 22-250 with a konus pro m30 6-24x44 that seems like its good glass for around 300 its got the target turrets mildot ret. havent had any problems with it after a year and half

I have looked through them, but I have no reason to get turrets. I own quite a few FFII and signatures. I would do alittle more research about their turrets before you purchase a Burris with turrets. Again I am a big fan of Burris but not their turrets.

Does any of you guys happen to know what the factory ring height is on these guns, the factory rings that came with this one seem to be a the least a med.height or higher
