A gent has made me a very fair offer on his mint mini 14, but I've been eye ballin the AR's for a while and was thinkin about buy'n one later on.

can some one give me a comaprison between them (the good, bad, ugly).

Most of the info I'm diggin up is simalar to what your say'n, I've gotta 10/22 and its a ok gun but for it to be a real shooter I need to tie up some cash in it (and shouldnt have to), kinda curious if the mini aint just a over grown 10/22.

I think the main thing with minis were they always shoot, and they are small and can take a beating. Supposedly the newer mini's are more accurate, but I have no 1st hand knowledge on that. I'd be interested also in hearing if the new ones truly are more accurate.

Just about every AR15 on the market will shoot better than 95% of the mini's in existence do.... just a superior design in regards to accuracy..

With the mini a lot of it is barrel harmonics and such. The mini is 100% dependable, fires almost anything without fail. Its an outstanding action, barrel design and setup are weak. I think I know as I spent a lot of money getting mine to shoot well. My AR's are mostly much more accurate and I rarely have any feed and function problems but when I do I can clear it very quickly. Personally the newer minis are more accurate than the old ones. If we are talking out of the box pure carbine standard barrel I would go with the mini. If we are talking varmint barrel and such then the AR is the way to go,

I have owned exactly one mini 14. I figure Bill Ruger still owes me for that POS.
You can pump a ton of money in one and still not have a rifle that will shoot with an average AR.

I consider the mini-14 more comparable to the AK-47 than the AR-15. Bulletproof design, digests anything and goes bang everytime. Not a target rifle by any means but a fine weapon nonetheless.
Comparing a mini to an AR is like comparing a 94 winchester to a Remington 700.

Yep the Mini is more like the M1 carbine, in 223 instead of 30 cal Apples and Oranges to a AR

with all the money people spend trying to get their minis to shoot like an AR, you are better off buying the AR in the first place.
Or look around on the used rack and if you are lucky you may find one like I did that some one else dumped a lot of money in. I found one that shoots moa anyday, and I picked it up for 600 bucks. this rifle will be in the family for a long time and I would not trade it for any AR.

Thats not entirely true. My 10/22 barrel is stock and I regularly hit ground squirrels out to 150-175. Yes I did dump a bunch of money into it but besides the trigger pull improvement the rest is only cosmetic.

I know folks who have mini's and love them, and they happened to have got one that out shoots his buddies Savage bolt gun (his buddy sighted it in for him while sighting the savage in)

I also know a couple brothers who have each shot the same Mini that their dad refurbished one swears by M14/M1A's and the other loves his AR's. The one that loves AR's likes the mini, and the one that shoots the M14's swears it couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.(Even though I've seen him shoot it accurately) Their dad likes the gun and shot the piss out of in back in the day to the point that he had to have it rebuilt by Ruger to function properly again.
