Savage barrel locking system........?

Heres a queation for ya. Why can't a Savage barrel nut locking system be used on a Remingtin action? Yes I know the thread would have to be a Remington thread but well why not? Wouldn't this be a quick and easy way to a switch barrel gun?

Michael J. McCasland,
A good question for Fred Moreo. He specializes in Savage rifles and is a very qualified gunsmith. I'm sure in 1 phone call he could answer all your questions. Or try his e-mail.

It would work, but it is a lot easier to screw your barrels up against a shoulder than measuring headspace and adjusting that nut each time.

What Jack said.

Changing barrels on a Savage is easy, and can be done at home with a bare minimum of "special" tools. But, it isn't anything like a real switch barrel. With the Savage, you have to take the stock and the scope off to change out barrels. With a barrel shoulder like a Rem., all you have to do is screw one barrel off and another one on. No muss, no fuss.

I did see a guy at the range this year that had used simple setscrews to keep the barrel nuts in place, that was spinning barrels on and off his Savage just like a Rem. - basically turned the nuts into shoulders.

Yes thats all you have to do is ture=n the nuts into shoulders via set screws or Put JB weld in the threads where the nut threads on and when it dries you have a barrel with a shoulder,
As far as remingtons goes it will work also as well as any other rifle as far as that goes.
The barrel nut is going to put alot of smiths out of work thats for sure.
