Changing barrels on a Savage is easy, and can be done at home with a bare minimum of "special" tools. But, it isn't anything like a real switch barrel. With the Savage, you have to take the stock and the scope off to change out barrels. With a barrel shoulder like a Rem., all you have to do is screw one barrel off and another one on. No muss, no fuss.
I did see a guy at the range this year that had used simple setscrews to keep the barrel nuts in place, that was spinning barrels on and off his Savage just like a Rem. - basically turned the nuts into shoulders.
