I am still trying to decide what rifle to buy i have it narrowed down to the model 16 savage or the tikka t3 lite. it will be in a .243 win. and i am wanting the most accurate gun i can get for the money. i have some friends that have savages, i dont know anybody that owns a tikka. i am wanting some replies for people who have one or both and wondering wich one is a better shooter/rifle straight outa the box?? i am looking to shoot tiny holes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

thanks in advance for all the good info.

I would do the Tikka also. The Tikka owners here report excellent accuracy with all the Tikkas.

My points would be:

better looking gun
scope rings included
super accurate out of the box
nicer finish
better resale value
great feel.

I like both first off. Accuracy wise the savage gets a slight nod, however I like the Tikka rifles a little better. Both have great triggers.

i really like the looks of the savage action better that the tikka. the savage looks pretty tuff and the tikka action looks like a semi-auto, i have heard so many say "that out of the box, savage is the most accurate" what is savages factory tolerence? i have heard that tikka has a 1" garuantee. everyone i talked to says their savages shoot 1/2 " groups out of the box. so many choices, so little time. i only have a week to decide. maybe i jsut need one of each..lol.

I have 3 Tikka T3 Lite/stainless(270 Win, 270 WSM, and a custom barreled 6.5/06AI) and one Savage M10 FCM Sierra SA in 243.

I definitely like the T3's better than the Savage although the T3 is around $100 more here in Canada.

Why, I like the magazine better than the M10. Both are detachable. I like the trigger better on the T3 and yes, I have the Accutrigger. It doesn't feel as lite adjusted all the way down and the T3 feels a touch crisper. The whole thing with the Accutrigger pre trigger(or what ever you want to call it) is about safety. Unnecessary unless they are afraid of their trigger firing on it's own???

I think the T3 is more accurate, at least at this point. Both are more accurate than you could ask for in a hunting rifle though. The T3 is simply the smoothest cycling rifle I've ever held in my hands. I also like the stock on my T3's better than the M10 Sierra. Every T3 Lite Synthetic I've looked at had the barrel dead centre down the channel and the stock fits super snug along with the trigger guard, which looks like it's one piece. Hardly a seem noticeable. Savage stocks typically are sloppy. Also, the molding marks are far less compared to the Savage.

Just a better made product, plain and simple.

I do like my savage though. The T3 is just in a separate class.

I have a 223 varmit tikka, a 22-250 varmit tikka, had skinny barrel t3s in both, have 243 in t3, 300 win mag in t3, 308 in t3.
every single one shoots one hole groups at 100 with factory ammo. NOT one caliber holes but one ragged hole.
I will try to do a pic. if you want, of my 243 target, sight in, 10 rounds of winchester factory 95 grain in less than 1 inch.
straight from the store, Leupold 3X9 vx II.
and I aint that good a shot!!

I bought a Tikka T3 in 270WSM last year and just got around to loading some bullets for it. I went to the range the other day and tried the loads and was pleased that one of the loads produced a group of .495" and I think it will do even better if I try another.5 grain of powder.

I have never really been a fan of rifles with detachable magazines but the tikka's action is super smooth.

The tikka is a very comfortable rifle and I highly recomend it,infact I wouldn't be suprised if I get another in a difewrent caliber someday.

Good luck and have fun with whichever you chose.

I like my Tikka as well. Smooth action, and a joy to carry. The .223 is accurate enough, shooting under 1" @ 100 yds with factory ammo.

Tikka all the way! Go to the store and just feel the difference in the actions. You open up the savage and it feels like the bolt is going to fall out it is so loose. The Tikka is smooth as glass! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just bought a tikka t3 varmint. That is the best light weight gun i have ever bought! Hands down. out of the box it shoot 3/4" groups i have slowly brought it down to 3/8" 5 shot! Not a big savage fan i had problems with an old model. GO TIKKA!!!!!!

Looks can be deceiving and should not be near the top of the list in requirements.

When it comes to the action, Tikka is in a class way above Savage.

If you are on a budget and can't afford the extra few $$ for the Tikka, by all means get the Savage. You will still have yourself a accurate rifle.

The Tikka gets you a lot more for a little extra cash. It's such a good value that it makes Rem//Win/Browning look over priced. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I have never read a negative post about Tikka. I bought a T3lite in 22-250 and love it. With the scope and bipod it is still less than 9 pounds. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

thanks for all the info guys. I think i am going to order the savage model 16 243 for my yote hunting gun, i just like the looks of it and have friends that shoot great groups with theirs. i talked to savage on the phone today and they said they also have a 1" or better garauntee and if i have any problems they will take care of it, however i will own a tikka t3 laminate and stainless by this fall, no i just have to decide on what caliber to get in the tikka. oh well i guess i have a few months.
