SAVAGE OR TIKKA?

ace-man, does your Tikka out shoot your Savage? Which other Savage do you have? Which Tikka?
To answer your question. I own three Tikka's and one Savage. The Savage holds it own as far as accuracy.I feel like I'm beating a dead horse here reading the previous posts. The Tikka is a finer rifle. Period! I must agree with my fellow Western Washingtoneer. What the Heck are you DOING!

To already beat a dead horse....
Savage is a good rifle. It may not be as pretty or as refined but it places the bullets where they need to go. It's a pain jane hunting rifle for the common rifleman and nothing more.

The Tikka by rep. is also a very accurate and more rifled than the Savage and has a very good accuracy rep.

Both are very good rifles and in "my opinion" beats outs most big names in value.

My last rilfe was a Savage, which I picked up for 200 dollars. I actually wanted to try a Tikka but couldn't justify the extra cash when the Savage does exactly what I want it to do.

My next "new" rifle will probably be a Tikka, but I certainly don't wish for every one to go out and buy a Tikka and Savage to go out of business. They both make great products and I hope both companies stay in business for a long, long, time.

I relate Savage to Toyotta pickups, they don't pick up girls but they run forever and do exactly what the owner needs them to do...aka they get the job done. As you can probably tell I am a big fan of Savage. They buildd a rifle for the common man - the guy that wants and accurate rifle but can't affort to spend alot of money. Sometimes I feel than other gun companies get too caught up in the "features" and forget about what one really needs in a rifle.

I strongly encourage anyone to get one of each. I own more refined firearms than Savage that doesn't mean I cast my Savages aside, I killed three deer this year with my cheap Savage rifle. The real question is, can you (or I) outperform the tool we are using?

i am wanting a gun that will shoot as good as i can shoot it and i don't have so much darn money in it that have to worry about scratching it, or dropping it. if i went out and bought that tikka laminate i would leave it at home when i went hunting b/c its so pretty. i think the savage is what i am looking for at this time.

You have no need to justify your purchase of a Savage, they are truely a durable and accurate rifle, no one here is going to rag on you for buying any firearm. Poke fun at'cha maybe /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif LOL

It matters zilch to no one what I buy or how much I spend on it. You asked for opinions on two brands of firearms, you got'em. Had you asked opnions on 12 brands, you would have got them too. It's all about personal choice and the Savage is a damn good choice.

The crew here, respects your choice and we understand the limited funds issue, most of us have certainly been there at one time or another and many of us are still in the same boat.

I came in a little late on this thread but I'll put my 2 cents worth in anyway.

IMO the only production rifle that compares to a Tikka is a Remington and although I'm a dyed in the wool, confirmed, and some might say rabid Remington fan I must admit that I like the Tikka's a whole LOT and they give NOTHING up to any production rifle!!!

As far as comparing a Savage to a Tikka... No contest... Get the Tikka.

The Savage won't resell worth a crap and they're butt ugly, have dismal quality control, and the barrels foul horribly.

If it's not too late please reconsider. You asked for advice and got solid advice from a bunch of people that have had experience with both. I am part of that group.

I've owned 6 Savages and 2 Tikkas and I sure miss both those Tikkas and am very glad to be rid of the Savages. By the way I had to take a loss on all but one of the Savages and that never happens with Remingtons or Tikkas if you play your cards right.

The memory of low price only lasts for a few days... The enjoyment of good quailty lasts forever...

Sincerely,
$bob$

My 22-250 Tikka shoots .33 inch groups out of the box and under 1 inch with factory ammo. The bolt is smooth as silk. The only thing I don't like is the grip, I have a small hand and it just does not quit fit right but close enough that it shoots good, very good.

jeeze guys, I may just run out and get a 4th T3 now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

There is not a big difference in a T3 Lite Stain/Syn btw je4. The laminate yes.

I own t-3 in 243 win and get sub moa with mutiple factory loads from 58gr to 85gr. I Promise you will not find a lite rifle on the market that is more accurate. You might be able to buy a savage wtih out of box accuracy that is better than the tikka but it wount be a lite rifle .I have both the savage and tikka and they both shot better than I can.

Hey there je4Bowhunting, There isn't a thing wrong with buying American. Even if it is ugly. Here is a link to a site you might enjoy. www.southforkrifleclub.homestead.com.
Click Groundhog then 2005 Championship Match, then Factory. These are the scores from the 100 300 and 500 yd Factory class groundhog target shoot. These are bone stock guns. You may be allowed a trigger job but that is all. I think you will enjoy the site in general.
