I have a Savage Striker, in 308 Win, that I am considering a change for. For those not familiar with Strikers, upper right in the picture:

So this pistol is sub-MOA accurate with the W-748/130 gr TTSX load I developed for it. The issue is at 2800 fps MV, out of the 15" barrel, the recoil is violent. So violent, that the three Warne rings you see on it, can't hold the Burris 2-7x scope tight. After a dozen or so rounds, the scope cant is noticeable, and scope has to be reset. I have tried just about every scope ring known to man, and nothing keeps the scope from canting under recoil. Soooo, given I am getting older, not wiser, I have been considering re-barreling the Striker with something a bit more friendly recoil wise.
My intended purpose is deer hunting, and predator hunting where I pack a shotgun, and a centerfire, for various situations. I was thinking 6mm something, but I am going through a love affair with my 260 Rem. at the moment, so I am thinking 6.5mm something. I was thinking 6mm Dasher, with the 6mm idea, but now with the 6.5 thoughts, I am not sure the which cartridge would be the better choice. A 260 Rem. would be OK, but it seems like recoil would still be an issue. So I am thinking maybe a 6.5x47 Lapua, or something along those lines. The 6.5 LBC/Grendel might be a bit too much of a step down, although the recoil impulse would be nicer. Anyone want to share their thoughts on the possibilities?
What ever choice I go with I will probably go with a heavier barrel profile, and thread it for a suppressor, for deer hunting out of box blinds...This thing is brutal shooting out of a small window, for both recoil and noise level!
