Scope bikini or Butler Creek flip caps

I have regular scope covers on my scope right now. Was thinking of possibly getting some Butler Creek flip caps, then ran across the scope bikini while doing some internet searches. So does anyone have scope bikinis and how do you like them. Pros / cons or either. Thanks.

you ain't out much if you lose it, and won't snap off in the cold like the flip-ups.....

I like the Butler flip caps. I got em on all my scopes regardless if they're a range queen or field gun. The inner tube looks proprietary. Are you sure that's not patented? I wouldn't post too many photos on the web without checking into that for sure

I like flip-ups as well, however, every set of Butler Creek caps I've bought (3 sets) in the last year has broken...snapped off at the hinge. I've got older ones that have been working well for years.

I prefer the Butler Creek caps. When it is stormy you can leave the shut and flip them open with minimal movement if something is coming in.

I just took all the Butlers off my rifles. I am sick of them. They are cheap and flimsy. The front objective has to be tweaked ever so carefully to get it to stay closed all the time. The rear cap is always in the way on a variable power scope like the NightForce where the entire eye piece moves when adjusting power. As flimsy as these things are, I'm shocked that nobody else has stepped up and offered a more durable product that's available for all scopes, not just Leupold (aluma caps).

I don't have the problems you speak of, and never have, except for the AO moving the flip cap, which isn't going to be fixable REGARDLESS of manufacturer. My flip caps always stay shut. I wouldn't expect them to stay closed if they're being pushed on my brush, or drug along in a sniper drag bag, but they are $7 flip caps

.

I'm sure someone could come out with a very similar product, but I don't see how it could be made any more durable, or more durable, and any less expensive, really.

The hinge is my point of complaint on the durability aspect. I don't care what it costs. If it was a better product and warranted a higher price I'd have no problem paying it.

On all of my scopes (NightForce) the front cover has to be adjusted just right depth wise on the bell or it won't stay closed. As for the rear cap being in the way, that's just limited to scopes that the eye piece and power ring built as one solid piece (most of your higher end optics).

Im sure they work great for many people, they just don't suit me very well.

It's hard to shoot through that rubber in the snow, no?

only 'numby's try to shoot thru ANY scope cover......Sorry that YOU are having problems......Maybe try the 'flick off' method until you figger life out.

I started doing this in the late 60's and thought I was the only one still doing this.

too low-tech for these whippersnappers, I reckon......

Shame they'll never know how good they work.
Rather have some breakable flippy deally-bob, or something that sounds s-e-x-y like 'bikini'......
