Scouting a 30+ mile road into the woods (advice wanted)

Cove is horse shoe shaped (use your imagination ).
You sit on one side of the shoe calling towards the other side of the shoe with hopes the coyote will travel the shoreline to get to you.
At least that's what I think he's talking about.

Never thought to use the water in my calling other than having my scent blowing back into it, thanks guys!

Also, if I need to start getting into the woods at night I thought I’d try out my headlamp. I coloured a few layers of plastic wrap red to make a red lens and went for a 15 minute walk into the woods behind my house just now. That was spooky…I might have to buy some depends and wear them in case I startle a moose…even a rabbit and I probably would have jumped. Very different energy at night my goodness

Damn, that's a lot of dogs.

Won a side stage at a center fire match.
22lr 348 yds. 8" plate.
16 out of 20...probably should have been 18 but the wind did something weird while I was doing a mag change.

Have a video of it some where but you can't really tell the range. It's a white plate in the middle of the prairie with no reference.

I checked inventory-
Hornady-60 grain SP
Nosler-60 grain Varm tipped
Sierra- 60 grain Tipped Match King
62 grain Game King
60 grain HP
69 Grain HPBT Match
63 grain SMP

I've always had pretty good luck with Sierra bullets. Think I'll give the 69 HPBT's a go. I always liked lighter bullets in the 223 but maybe this one will shoot the heavier bullets better.

I just looked at my log book and have already tried the 62 grain Sierra Game Kings and the 60 grain Tipped MK's and also looked at saved targets. Results were not good.

I think coyotes get used to the constant traffic, and if they have no negative encounters with ATV's, the noise probably won't bother them.

Just outside of Denver, there is a fairly large chunk of National Forests lands that are set aside for off-road motorcycle use, and it is used pretty heavily. A friend of mine is there frequently and he tells me stories of coming around a corner and there is a turkey/deer/elk in the path.
This area is called Rampart Range. There is wildlife in there just as you say..deer turkey. Have tried hunting coyotes there multiple times. Never called anything in. I've hunted private ranches off Dakan road that ends running into Rampart Range road. Lots of coyotes there. Its right at the foothills and they had cattle. I don't know if it's the dirt bikes or what but Rampart Range Road has skunked me many many many times.
Also there is no recreational shooting in that area. Hunting is ok. Have been coyote hunting and had someone shooting a handgun in my direction. Yelling that I was up there didn't work. Popping off about 10 rounds into the dirt from the AR let them know someone was out in the woods in the direction they were shooting. Hearing bullets hitting tree limbs over your head gets your heart pumping.

"Hearing bullets hitting tree limbs over your head gets your heart pumping."

Ain't that the truth!

I have also tried for coyotes in that area, and around Deckers. There are not many around. There's a fair population of cats, though, both big and small.
